NWR: Good school district/residential areas in Queens..

So we're going to start looking for a house hopefully in next few months once our apartment sells. We already know we want to look into Rego Park, Forest hills and Kew Gardens...What other areas of Queens do you all recommend? Needs to be close to transportation, good schools for future, etc.

Anyone know much about Glendale? Middle Village?

Yeah that's the only issue :-/

Hubby suggested Nassau this morning, but I can't be that far away from MTA! lol

Hubby is from Whitestone - and I know the schools are very good there.

ETA: But you have to take a bus to the train station.

I live in whitestone and I love it...but yea if you need a train not the place at all!

Glendale is nice. I don't know about the schools, but a friend of mine lives there and it's a nice neighborhood. I've looked there in the past and I like it...just street parking stinks...but if you are looking for a house hopefully there will be a driveway and problem solved.

Bayside is right along the best LIRR train line. Your morning commute would be 20 minutes into Penn.

We'd loveeee to live in Astoria, but would need to spend like a million dollars to get a decent looking house, and that's def. out of budget. One day we'll end up there again - we lived there for a year and love it.

Hmmm, that's not bad at all - it takes us about 30 minutes now to get to Penn station from where we live with the train. About how much does it come out to a day or month to take the LIRR this way? If you don't mind me asking

THIS! I lived in Bayside for over 10 years and we were walking distance to the LIRR. I went to H.S in the city so it was super convenient and theat line runs pretty frequently compared to others.

I don't remember how much the monthly pass was tho. and i got a student discount of course

eta: super family friendly area IMO. And lots of stores and bars now on Bell blvd.

Crashing!!

FH and I live in Astoria. We absolutely LOVE it here. We live on a totally quiet street with tons of parking. We're in the Upper Ditmars area which is a lot more quiet and family friendly that south of Astoria Blvd. It's a great neighborhood.

I live in Glendale...Schools are good and the area is quaint. I can't walk to the subway though. There are tons of buses but I would need to bus or get a ride to the Forest Hills trains or Middle Village Trains.

FH and I will be moving to LI. The Nassau LIRR isn't too much longer than my normal commute, but much more expensive.

We LOOOVE that area, but right now it's too much to get the kind of house we're looking for anywhere in Astoria

Thanks, T! That's good to know. The whole train thing is making it hard to look in certain areas :-/

Middle Village has a good district. The school that is right accross from juniper park is great, I believe it is 149. Fh's nieces and nephew's went there as well as some of my friends kids.
