Well I went for my 'final' interview today. I have been through 4 interviews, one demo and I have been working with this district for 2 years now. I got the call last week that the ***. Sup. wants to meet with me and the secretary said congrats bc it was for a position in Sept. I'm all excited thinking I'm finally done with the damn interviews...I get there thinking I'm going ot be offered something...
Yeah Well I had to sit in a group of 3 more freaking people and go through an hour interview AGAIN!
What made me more mad was the fact that I had done soooo well so far and the as. Sup made me feel like an A-hole. I heard horror storied about her but i thought ppl weren't kidding. She's a witch!
So now I have no idea what on earth I will be doing as of right now! I'm soo let down...

Re: NWR: Had to vent bc many of you are teachers...
I am sorry to hear that. Interviews for teaching jobs are no joke and some districts are harder than others. I would send out a whole bunch more resumes now, b/c a lot of the times the districts don't even know of an opening until August. Send to places you have already sent just so you are on top of the never ending pile. Good luck. What are you certified in by the way?

Re: NWR: Had to vent bc many of you are teachers...
Well I don't know if I got it...there were 4 other people there for the position and we were the finalists!
I'm certified in General Ed and Spec. Ed. And I'm going for TESOL in my MA.
I love to teach but the politics crap makes me crazy. I have done soo much for this district and I have been recommended by 2 principals and a few teachers...And my demo was freaking awesome. (So the principal said...) I just hate when I walk out of an interview and think it ******!

Think positive. Whenever I use to leave an interview thinking it was bad was usually the ones I was called back to. My district is hiring.

you make the same salary as all the other teachesr on your level regardless if it's permanent. A leave replacement (if he/she is full-time) makes the same as a tenure track or tenured teacher.
the only differences in pay is your education level and years of experience
GOOD LUCK!
and don't be discouraged... i would say things are looking very good for you!

Re: NWR: Had to vent bc many of you are teachers...
i un derstand it is stressful, but this is why it is 1 - harder to get a job on LI 2 - residents pay taxes for good schools
believe me, as a city teacher and now AP myself, I interview people ALL the time and for many of them i wonder how they graduated college
if you got this far, im sure you're f ine, but i do appreciate their rigorous process

aww dont worry - when i got hired they made me go for threee interviews and everyone else only had 1!!! Plus i thought the AP absoultely hated me and when i got hired she was the nicest out of all of them. Try not to stress over it - im sure it will all work out

It's hard to get into LI schools, that's for sure. If you still have to get your Master's, keep applying and go to Grad school full-time. My plan was to do that if I didn't get in a LI school when I graduated.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I've been teaching in suffolk for 5 years and am trying to relocate to westchester. I've been through hell and back since january. I've mad it to the finals with many and just haven't gotten anything yet. Very political and competitive.
At this point FH and I probably are going to move closer so I can commute. ugh!!!
here's the link if you need it. Good luck and keep your confidence up!!!
Have you applied to OLAS. That is what I use to apply for jobs. you can search and they can find you. http://www.olasjobs.org/

Hang in there, getting this far is an accomplishment! They like you, otherwise they wouldn't have kept asking you to come back in. The politics are unavoidable, and they are always an obstacle. If it doesn't work out, don't get upset...there will be others. I've been through tons of interviews, eventually you will land somewhere. Keep your resumes circulating and try walking a few in personally. Good luck!!

I hope everything works out! Getting a teaching job nowadays is so hard, but if you got that far in the interview process you have a great chance of getting hired! Good luck!

Yeh..defintely DON'T give up your dream to teach because of this one experience. Teaching is the most rewarding career...I wake up everyday and know that work will be fun, interesting, exciting, challenging and it WON'T be the same as yesterday. I am way too active to have a monotonous job.....you'll love it when you get there, trust me. Keep applying, keep working hard and keep praying..it WILL work.

Re: NWR: Had to vent bc many of you are teachers...
I totally totally sympathize with you. I worked in a school district for SIX years and I worked in the department that I wanted to apply for. I applied for a teaching job. The chairman of the dept. wanted me and he didn't even interview anyone else. All the teachers wanted me. Even some kids and parents were kind enough to express their support. My demo was flawless.
Well, I get to the final level and I am interviewed by the assist. sup. This is a woman who is never in the classroom, doesn't know me or anything.
And after it seems I have this position in the bag, she tells my chairman that she wants to interview more people. Arggggg.
And the crazy thing is that she ended up OFFERING me the job. But I had already accepted a position in another district, so I had to turn her down. hehe. Boy was she mad. And so she and the principal had to cut into their summer to interview more people.
Hang in there. Don't let this experience discourage you. Unfortunately, its typical.
