ok so fh's health insurance is expiring asap..... he is now a perm. sub in a school district and he had to get his foot in the door but it comes without insurance...... and hes not eligible to be under mine til march!
he is appplying to HEALTHYNY......but between subbing and his part time job he may end up making too much money to qualify....
so we are even willing to just go for the hospital and prescription only type plan... so that it covers emergencies........ but if he has to go the walk in clinic for a sore throat we will just pay out of pocket....
Does anyone know anything not tooo expensive? know anyone in insurance that can help us out?????
thanks soooo much

Re: nwr: health insurance
FH applied for Healthy NY when he was on unemployment. He made too much money. He was sent back a statement saying the most he could make weekly for it was $102.00

Re: nwr: health insurance
if youve had direct pay insurance within the last 12 months, you are not eligible for HealthyNY... i tried this same thing... they told me because I had direct pay (NOT cobra... i believe if you had cobra youre still eligible)... but now i pay $602.10 a month for insurance because these asshats seem to think that if you DONT make a lot of money, you HAVE a lot of money to spend on health insurance. retarded. i know.

Kristin- I checked with my guy here and he only sells to groups. I apologize but he recommends GHI.

Re: nwr: health insurance
Are you sure he can't go on your insurance till March?
I was able to put FH on my insurance as 'domestic partner/spousal equivalent.'

Re: nwr: health insurance
I just found out that I have the same problem. I have a leave replacement position and was told over a month ago that I am eligible for insurance. I filled out paperwork and I even just received my insurance card in the mail. Today, as I was leaving after staying two extra hours to get work done, I checked my mailbox. I received a letter stating very briefly that it was a mistake and I am not eligible. I totally just used this thread to vent.

Re: nwr: health insurance
I have only heard about Healthy NY and that it's really good - I didn't know that you could make too much money to qualify.

Re: nwr: health insurance
Look into Health First, Suffolk Health Plan, United Healthcare AmeriChoice, Affinity. You have to make under a certain salary though.

I will ask FH bc he used to sell it. Why does insurance have to be so damn confusing??

Re: nwr: health insurance
I commiserate with you all...health insurance is rough and FH doesn't even have any! I'm starting a new job and I want to know if I can put him under my ins. What are the requirements to qualify as a domestic partner/spousal equivalent?

Re: nwr: health insurance
We don't qualify for domestic partner....
I am wishing that he will qualify for healthyny but i have this sinking suspicion that they are going to tell him he makes too much money.....(even though someone i know on it.. makes a decent amount of money.. so i don't know) ...
poor FH isn't used to this.. he always had a good job with good insurance.. but this is what happens when you are breaking into the education world.. i feel for him.. and for all of you doing the same

Domestic partnership means you have to live in the same household with the same address. I just put my FH on my insurance. Each company is different, I know when I was on his he only needed a copy of my Social Security card. Where I work now they need two forms of documentation. I am using our Bankstatement and Lease proving we live together.
