I hate to ask this but has anyone had multiple yeast infections. How was it treated?

I've never had one but wanted to let you know that you should make an app with your gyno for recurrent infections. Over the counter stuff exists but there might be an underlying reason for getting recurrent ones (like diabetes). Also, you might think it's a yeast infection, but it may be something else. Make an app with your doctor. Good Luck!

I have to say this is good advice. But I also wanted to add that if you see your doctor, he/she can give you a pill called Diflucan if it is indeed a yeast infection which is very effective against it. Good Luck!

Definitely see your doctor. A friend of mine used to have frequent yeast infections and she has been taking a vitamin supplement of that good bacteria (I forget what it's called) and she NEVER gets them anymore. her cause was a lack of that type of good bacteria in her system. she takes those supplements and eats yogurt and they're GONE....

Re: NWR: Health question
I had multiple yeast infections. They lasted for 3 YEARS. I'm not exaggerating. It was awful. I went to my gyno about it a bunch of times and he kept telling me that it was because I was on the Pill, and if I wanted it to go away, I would have to go off the Pill. So I put up with it. Yeast infections clear up naturally on their own in about a week, so I'd get 2 or 3 a month, every month, for 3 years. Occassionally, if one was really bad, I'd call and get a prescription for Monistat, but it didn't do much since a few days after the YI went away, I'd get a new one. And I tried Diflucan (the pill) but experienced some really awful side effects, which were so much worse than the YI that I never took it again.
Anyway, a few years ago, it just went away on its own. No reason for it, but I really can't complain. So... hmm... I'm not really offering any advice here, I guess, but letting you know that I've been where you are and I sympathize!

FH is a doctor and deals w/ these issues a lot at work. You should definitely get checked out with your Gyn to make sure its not something else. Some women think they're yeast infections when they're actually urinary tract infections (they do have similar symptoms), so its best to narrow it down. There's always adding yogurt to your diet daily to prevent YI's and also you can take acidolpholous which is an over the counter vitamin supplement. FH said this is VERY important so make sure if your Gyn gives you something to help with the infection, make sure you take the cream until its completely done. When its been diagnosed that its definitely a YI and the Dr says you can use over the counter meds, finish all of it...even if its 7 days of annoying creams.

Are you 100% sure it's a yeast infection? I had what i thought was a yeast infection, treated it myself and woke up the next morning feeling so much worse! Turned out it was a bacterial infection and you need to see a doctor to get a prescription for this ( I got Metrogel and it cleared up in 5 days). BI's can be caused by stress and can become reacccurent (mine did a few times)...go see your doctor and have a culture done just to make sure..HTH and wasn't TMI!

All this info helps. Thank you very much girls. I've been going to the doctor and being treated for yeast infections. This time she thinks it's a bacterial infection. I hope this round of meds will be the last Thanks!

Re: NWR: Health question
I suffered with yeast and bacterial infections for 5 years! They just would not go away. I did not have any underlying condition, but I am lactose intolerant, so that was the reason for the multiple infections. My PCP suggested Acidophillus pills (which you can get at any drug store) and I still get them but not as frequently as before. If you don't like taking pills, eat plain yogurt everyday, that has also helped me, but made my stomach sick. I also wear pantyliners everyday and change them frequently to help minimize infection.
