I'm putting together my rank list for my residency for next year and I need some input on where to rank certain cities, especially if you have lived in any of the places. All the hospitals seem about the same, so if you have an opinion about the city it would be greatly apprecitaed:
Stoneybrook, NY (Stoneybrook) Mineola, NY (Winthrop) NYC (St. Luke's/Rosevelt, subsidized housing in by the hospital) Camden, New Jersey (Robert Wood Johnson) Memphis, Tennesse (University of Tennesse) Nofolk, Virginia (Eastern Virginia Medical College) Augusta, Georgia (Medical College of Georgia) Savannah, Georgia (Mercer) Jacksonville, Florida Gainesville, Florida Tampa, Florida Miami, Florida

Re: NWR: Help me figure out where to live next year!
i haven't been to any of these (except for the obvious ny ones) but my opinion would be where would you and your FH want to live. Where do you have family?? Will you be staying there for awhile?? if yes then i would look at school districts for the kiddies.....

We will be staying for 5 years. We are ranking all the Florida and Georgia ones first, but have no idea about Memphis, Norfolk, Camden or any of the NY places. Like are Mineola or Stoneybrook nice places to live?

I live 5 minutes from Stonybrook. Its a great hospital and great place to live. School district (three village) is one of the best on Long island.

If it were me... I would choose Miami, Savannah, and NYC. I've never been to the first two but i know they are fun/beautiful places. I've heard Camden is gross.

Camden is one of the most dangerous cities in the US. Avoid it if you can.
As far as St. Luke's goes, the one on the upper west side or the one around 58 st? I used to work for Continuum (the company that St. Luke's Roosevelt is part of) in the corp. offices on 57th St. I've been to the housing that's on 58th/59th street. It's not so bad. The area doesn't have too much going on there because it's all the way near the WSHW, but Central Park is only a few blocks away and once you get there, there's a lot more to do.

I urge you not to choose Camden! If it were my choice, probably Virginia.
ETA: If you chose the one in Camden, it wouldn't be terrible if you lived in Philly. It's right over the bridge...

Don't know about outside of NY, but Stony Brook is a great place to live, it's a college town because of the university and it's next to Port Jeff which a nice town on the water.
Like the other girls said, stay away from camden, i would take it off your list!

Re: NWR: Help me figure out where to live next year!
I grew up in New Hyde Park which is a town or two away from Mineola...nice area...good hospital...you could live in New Hyde Park, Garden City Park, Williston Park...all good areas & close to Winthrop
I have friends in Stoneybrook...also a nice area...more rural than Mineola area...larger lots of land...a bit less congested...also a great hospital....my brother works at Stonybrook University which is right by the hospital & accociated with it.
Camden...used to date someone from Philly...not a great area to drive thru...the rest i don't know of personally...good luck!

I'd agree w/ Florida and Georgia. I went to Stony Brook for college and grad school. It's a beautiful area w/ great schools. Close enough to the city yet w/out all of the disctractions. Home prices are coming down a lot too. Like the others said, forget NJ-----horrible area!

Oh my goodness, I didn't realize Camden was so bad. They told us in the inteview it was a great place. And the hospital looked so nice! Thanks so much for the information!
Has anyone lived in Memphis?

I have never been to any of the ones out of NY but my friend loves Memphis. She has family there and goes all the time. Also, Florida is where the bulk of foreclosed homes are so I would stay away JMO. Good luck.

i would put NYC first for sure, youll probably be in manhattan so thats great. camden NJ is really bad, i would put that as my last choice, look up their statistics. miami is also nice, i would put that pretty high.
