I know this is kinda personal.. but I have a bad UTI right now. I called my gyn and they are closed! I have some left over amoxicilian .. should I just take that to help make the infection start going away or wait until I can see the gyn on Monday? For the pain I am taking some over the counter stuff right now.

I am so sorry! That is the worst!
Can you go to a walk in like First-Med so at least they can give you some antibiotics? I can't imagine trying to get through the whole weekend with that pain.
I would say take what you have... but you might want to try to get a dr. on the phone before you do.
Try to drink as much cranberry juice as you can handle (try it at room temp- it goes down easier).

Try AZO - any drug store has it - definitely helps. And drink lots of Cranberry juice.

You don't have to go to the gyno, just go to any doctor - go to a walk in clinic! DO NOT take the left over antibiotics you have - actually you should never have any left overs with antibiotics, you should ALWAYS take everything that is prescribed to you, even after you are feeling better. Cipro is usually the anitbiotic prescribed for UTIs. Amoxicillin may not even affect the bacteria that is causing your UTI - DO NOT TAKE IT!!

I would call your MD...he/she should be able to call in a prescription to your pharmacy for you. Taking antibiotics can make it worse, so hold off on the meds.
and yes, I agree with girls...drink LOTS of cranberry juice!

Where do you live?? I get them frequently. I usually just run to First Med (walk-in care, but good quality and nice people). They can test you and give you a prescription there. If it's a real infection, you need the antibotics, cranberry juice doesn't get rid of infections.

I would def go to a walk in....UTI's are pretty routine, they'll give you the stuff that will have you feeling better in NO TIME at all
and as everyone else said.... Drink cranberry juice til you feel like you're gonna be a cranberry

Whatever you do, stay away from Uristat... it makes the symptoms go away but never really makes the infection go away. good luck!!!

You need to to go the doctor or emergency office. Do you have blood?
Do not take canberry juice. That canberry capsule/tablet. It's more concentrated and with no sugar. Sugar will make the bacteria stiff even worst.
Drink lots of water.

I was in North Carolina for a business meeting when I had my first UTI - that was a pain like no other... since I was away from home I went to a walk in... believe they gave me Cipro for the infection... but ask them too - there is an OTC analgesiac drug that relieves the pain. The combination will reduce the pain and get rid of the infection. The antibiotics take a while to work, so you definitely want to reduce the pain ASAP.... OUCH... it hurts just thinking about it... I'm so sorry - feel better soon!!

don't take tha amox... it doesn't work for uti's. if the pain is unbearable (which i am sure it is... i have gone thru MANY of them) go to a walk in or er to get some meds. or if your dr's office has a way you can page the dr, he may be able to call you in something to get thru the weekend until you are seen in the office on mon.

uristat does take the pain away, and very quickly! you can get it at any drugstore, and then make sure you go to your dr to get a real antibiotic!
i hate UTIs... ive gotten so many of them :(

THanks girls and as many of you mentined not taking the left over amox. you were right and I thought about it after.. bad idea.. that would not help the bacteria.. only viral,,
I ended up bein able to get to see a doc today. I was prescribed Cipro twice a day for a week.
