NWR: Help with rental

Does anyone have any leads on where I would be able to find a place to rent on a month-to-month basis? (it would need to be a legal rental)

I own a coop that was pretty much destroyed by the hurricane, and at a meeting last night they told us it would be 6-12 months before we could move back. I was not expecting it to be anywhere near that long, and we really can't keep staying at other people's houses for the next year. I'm pretty down today, I can't believe we might not be back until after our wedding. I still can't believe that this has happened and I feel like the news keeps getting worse.

I know I've seen people on the boards ask about the upside/downside to buying a coop. Until Sandy, I've had a great experience in my coop. I got to be a homeowner without worrying about mowing the lawn, fixing the boiler, major repairs, etc. None of those things were my responsibility, and they were out of my control. However, now with this disaster, it is frustrating that the major construction is out of my control since that means added time and I am not a part of the decision making process. The upside is the coop is dealing with insurance and coordinating with contractors, so I can avoid some of that hassle. But the downside is, I'm kind of in the dark and I don't get to personally make major decisions about the reconstruction of my place (and I'm dying to know what's going on at all times).

Hopefully, nothing like this happens again so no one would have to worry about it, but this was something I never considered before I bought. Please excuse my babbling, I'm just trying to use any means available to see if I can find somewhere to live.

NWR: Help with rental

I would call some real estate offices in your area. A lot of them have Fema rentals available.

This is a great idea. I also sent you FM. I don't know if it's going to be helpful, but it's worth a try.
