NWR - hmmm

i'm looking for something to do in my life that is fun and also rewarding. any ideas?

i used to tutor and will probably pick that up again, but want to do something that will ACTUALLY affect the world

i feel like every day i come home from work, make dinner, eat, and watch tv and go to bed. repeat. daily. sometimes i read a little bit. sometimes i exercise.

what do you all do for fun?

If you like excercising I highly reccomend training for a race! you can start off slow (5k) and even work your way to up to half marathons and marathons! Its such a rewarding feeling when you cross that finish line!

this is on my bucket list

lisa, I feel the same way. My job is not very rewarding. I used to volunteer at animal shelters and that was very rewarding although messiness involved

after the wedding I thought about taking a photography class or getting back into writing

Why not sign up for a charity event? I am doing my second year of the Avon 2 Day Walk for Breast Cancer in October with my FSIL. You walk a full marathon the first day and a half marathon the second day. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I can't wait to do it again this year. You meet so many great people on the walk and the Wellness Village they set up in Randall's Island for you after the first day is awesome! We had so much fun.

i usually do the making strides against breast cancer walk in october at jones beach. a marathon and a half might be too much for these bones to handle

where else can you volunteer in suffolk? my best friend just started volunteering at the brooklyn music school and it seems like a really rewarding experience for her, but i dont know of anything like that in the huntington area.

TIA ladies

i participate in races, like 5Ks, breast cancer walks, tunnel to towers run, autisum 10k, etc.

this way im getting myself out, making a donation to a goo cause, gathering my friends together for a nice day, exercising, and being around people who always have a story... thats the most amazing part.

it may not make a dent in the world, but i can say that i was part of '______' (fill in the blank) and i made a difference

I have a friend who does a lot of volunteer work with Make A Wish - she goes to a lot of their events and always talks about how rewarding it is. BigBrothersBig Sisters is always looking for volunteers too.

ive been following up with wish upon a wedding but nothing yet-- i have an email from AIDS walk ny which is SOOOOOOO much fun. If you become a table volunteer... you sign people in for the walk.... if they donate X amount of dollars you get to ring a bell. Its really a beautiful time in the city.

Here's the link

i used to do it every year with the GAP when I worked there... but havent since i left if i didnt have a wedding to goto this year i'd prob do it again

Try NYCARES or volunteer.com or BigBrothers, Big Sisters. For fun I write poetry and go to open mics, sometimes we perform at rehab centers during the holidays. Just saw on Dr. Oz there is a place called Beacon House in Long Island and they help homeless veteran women get there lives back together after the war. That could be a good place to look into.
