NWR - Holidays

Okay... so, Easter and Passover are coming up. How are you guys spending time with the families now that you have an extended family??

All I can say is Thank Goodness Jewish Holidays are Two Nights

First night we're having dinner with my Family and Second Night we'll be with his HUGE family.

Anyone else?

BTW... hard to be on a diet with these holidays. I don't even like matzo that much!

I lucked out on this holiday because although FH is catholic, his mom doesn't really do Easter. So, we do something with my family since they usually have a nice bbq or something and have games for the kids.

I am a brat and his sister is rude to me always so I am always with my fam we make a short stop wherever his fam is to see the rest of his fam. I forbid to be near her rude *** though. Not for holiday like attitude but oh well hahahha

We only spend Thansgiving and Christmas with families. th of July we usually go hicking and camping in the mountains.
His mom gets Thanksgiving. My family gets Christmas.
Works out so good.

THis is the LAST year (hopefully) we're doing split seders. First night, FW and I will be at my parents, along with one of her BMs and her husband, and one of my GMs and his fiance.

Second night, I'll be with my fam, and FW is flying to Dallas to see hers. Ah well.

The plan is to host our own first night next year. We'll see how that goes.

I hate the holidays because everyone thinks that we should be spending it with them. To much drama.

Fh's family isn't religious but wants to see the baby so we'll do services with my family and hang out with his family after.

The holidays are soooooo stressful for us...We always end up doing a 'split day' where we try to see both families but it is EXHAUSTING and neither family ever feels like we spent enough time. As SOON as we go to get up, its 'You are leaving already?'

We tried to do rotating holidays, which everyone seems to be fine with...until Christmas rolls around. That seems to be the most contentious holiday for some reason.

The worst!! I guess we should be lucky that we are close to our families, and that they are nearby....but it is def. tough!!

what about doing Xmas eve with one family and Xmas day with the other then rotate the next year? Or even Good Fri with one and Easter the other

Considering I am getting married 3 weeks after Easter.. NO ONE is in the mood to spend money and have a huge gettogether.. FH is working, I am working and everyone else is laying low.. and that's totally cool with us!!!

Re: NWR - Holidays

Ours are somewhat complicated by the fact that FH wont drive on a holiday (technically not supposed to), so given that I have a really small family in NY my parents and sister come with FH and I to FILs where they have an enormous seder for both nights. For Rosh Hashannah we have been alternating years with each others' families and will probably continue to do so.
