For those of you that have already bought a home; did you buy a starter home or your forever home??

We bought a starter home, because it's what we could afford. It's in the neighborhood we like, and if/when we move, we'll likely stay here (our daughter is already in school). But I can't see this house being our forever home.

We r looking right now for something semi long term to forever. My realtor who is a family friend so I trust her...she said that you should always plan to stay in the home at least ten years for there to be value.

We had initially looked for a starter home, but ended up with a house bigger than we thought. Who knows where we'll be in the next five-ten years? lol

We're looking right now and I guess we'd be in the starter home category. We want enough space that we can have 1-2 kids if we end up staying in it some what longer than expected.

We're looking for something we could grow into. It's a buyers market right now and and we're trying to get more for our buck.

We bought our forever home in April...We knew we wanted two kids (god wiling) and we didn't want anything crazy expensive but with enough space for a family of 4 comfortably. We hate moving though, so there was no way I wanted a starter home unless there was room to expand later.

We were initially looking for a starter home, but just took the plunge and bought our forever home this June. It took much goading from mine and FH's parents. They kept saying nows the time to buy before we get shut out, but we were scared to take on such a large mortgage payment, along with all the bills associated with owning a home. Luckily when we found what eventually became our forever home, FHs dad gave us a generous amount toward our down payment and we went for it. Will be moving in with our two dogs after the wedding, and god willing, have a few kids in a few yrs time. :)

We are living in a one bedroom co-op at the moment that I own, so it's our starter home. I'm hoping to buy a 2 family house together with my parents in the next 2-5 years. That way I get free child care and I can look after my parents if they ever need that kind of care. That home I would own for as long as my parents are around so hopefully forever :)

I baught my first home at 23 and it was a starter. .. FH moved in with me when I was 25. It's nice because it was a cheep fixer up and now it's completely renovated and I'm not throwing money away on rent... now we can just save for a dream home along with the equity I have put into this place.

I know I don't technically fall under the category to answer but felt like answering anyway, haha. We are not looking to buy just yet as we don't know if we want to stay in New York after five years. We'll see what the first year of marriage brings. For now, we will rent. If we did buy now, it wouldn't be our forever home.

I'd say if you can afford your forever home now, buy it!! But if not, there's nothing wrong with a starter home! Just make sure it's in an area/school district that you like. Because you never know if your starter home could turn into your forever home!

This is very true. Our realtor said the same thing. You'll say 'I'm only going to spend 5-7 years in this place' and then end up spending 20!
