NWR How does a timeshare work?

FH is asking me all these questions so I figured you girls would know- haha

I would send him off to one of those cazy seminars but he would end up buying one w/ $ we dont have

What do they cost?
Can you go to different locations?
Who cleans them?
Who gets in when you die?
Can you sell it?
Does it go up in value?

TIA for getting him off my back

Cost depends on where you buy it.
You can change the location that you go to each time for a fee.
They have cleaning ladies usually (you do dishes, laundry)
I believe that you can leave it to someone in your will.
Yes you can sell it.
They usually go up in value but that could change just like any real estate.

What do they cost? It depends on what you're buying and where
Can you go to different locations? The type FH has yes he can and he's not set for a specific week, it's on a point system.
Who cleans them? They have housekeeping
Who gets in when you die? We can pass it on to anyone but they have to pay the maintenance
Can you sell it? Yes, but it's a PITA! FH has been trying to sell his for awhile.
Does it go up in value? Supposedly because of inflation

Re: NWR How does a timeshare work?

We just bought a timeshare last year, and this is how it goes.

We bought it from Remax (the RE people) and paid almost nothing for a 2BR/2bathroom -- 1 week timeshare (red week--which is a peak week) for Orange Lake in Orlando.

So we own the same room, for every week, of every year. (of course we have to pay taxes/maintenance every January).

BUT we are part of RCI, which is an exchange program. So basically you pay for a membership, and if you decide you want to 'transfer' your week, you can. By being a part of RCI we can also 'bank' our weeks, meaning since we know we wont be using our timeshare this week b/c its 2 weeks after the wedding, we have booked the week and we have 2 years from the date of our week to use it, all we have to do is pay a fee (which is about $170 to go anywhere domestic, and around $200 if we decide to go international).

I'm sorry if this is a little jumbled, I'm half asleep.

But if you have any questions, feel free to FM!

Re: NWR How does a timeshare work?

we bought our timeshare in may. it's through occidental resorts. any occidental or allegro resort is affiliated. we pay a monthly payment for 5 yrs until it's paid in full. when we travel all we pay is the all inclusive cost per person per day.
lets put it this way we saved $4k on our HM

we get a regular hotel room with extra facility perks, better service or first club/royal club. we can always upgrade to a 2 bedroom 3 bedroom and up

we get 1 week a year plus unlimited bonus time for trips booked within 60 days of travel and 10 bonus weeks for signing it's good for 100 years and we can will it to family members when we die
we can also let other people use our weeks

honestly there is more to it but i'm lazy fm me if you want

i believe ours cost $15k
