FH grew up in Ronkonkoma.. It's a very middle class area from what I've heard or observed. What school district is the house in? It may be either Sachem or Connetquot..FH says that Connetquot schools are a bit better but that may be b/c he went there.

The train ride to the city is long though.

I live in Holbrook and Lake Ronkonkoma is the next town over. Coming from closer to Nassau, it is different out here but in a good way. I feel it is very family oriented, less traffic, and the houses are not on top of each other.

FH and I have been here a year and LOVE it!!! I also take the train everyday from the Ronkonkoma train station. Yes, the commute is a little longer but I actually get home earlier then when I use to take the Babylon train.

Moving in this area has been the best decision we have ever made. Good luck to you!!!

Also, a little hint to keep in mind when searching for a house, drive around the area when school is just getting out. You learn a lot of the type of people are in the area.

I live in Lake ronkonkoma!! I live just like 5 minutes from Train Station. i moved here from Bayside, Queens. at first it ook some time getting used to.....but i love it!!1 I have lived here for 13 years!1 And Sachem school district is supposedly better than Connequoit and/or middle Country.

Yes, Sachem is better than Connetquot - but I am biased (Class of 2000, and bitter rivals! LOL). Lake Ronk is mostly good - there's one trashy area, but I think you'll know it when you see it.

FH lives in the area so I spend time out there (I'm a nassau girl) and it's nice.

He also teaches in Sachem and went to Sachem schools and I know he is a fabulous teacher (he teaches 1st grade) Things seemed to have worked out well for him!!! lol

my aunt lives in ronkonkoma....they r in connetquot sd but both are good schools, i really like the area out there

I graduated from Connetquot so I'd have to disagree too I know that Lk. Ronkonkoma can have some bad areas so it depends exactly where it is. I used to live just south of the railroad tracks closer to Duffield so it wasn't lake ronkonkoma. FM me if you have any questions though. I loved growing up there!!!
