I've been working the last 5 years in corporate accounting. The last 4 have been spent at my current company.
I just don't love my job. I've started to look for a new job; but now I feel with the wedding; and possibility of starting a family soon maybe i should stay put?
I just don't LOVE what i'm doing. And i'm starting to think i should leave now before i have a family so that i'm already settled into a new job by the time we're having kids.
also-i know with the economy finding a new job won't be easy. I already went on 3 interviews where they picked other candidates so it's not like i'll have a new job next week.
My older family members say stay put so you can gain seniority. But i feel like now a days seniority & longevity doesn't matter as much. I can be on the job 12 years and they can let me go if they need to.
I just feel like now a days; people don't stay at a job for 10+ years. I'll be there 5 years next January. I think it's time to move on...

Re: NWR: How long have you been at your job?
I've been here for almost 3 years - which is rare in my industry. Normally people move on after a year or two. I'm staying put for now...but we'll see what the future holds

Re: NWR: How long have you been at your job?
I've been at my job for 4 years and 4 months, in my new position for the past 2 months.
I am in the same boat. Don't love what I do but it's a job that pays the bills and right now, there are A LOT of bills to be paid.
I will def ride it out until the wedding, but may look around for something else once there is less immediate money pressure.

My job bores me because its so basic and that's why I'm currently back in school so after the wedding and I graduate I can go somewhere I can advance more. I've been here 5 years.

Re: NWR: How long have you been at your job?
I've been at my job for only 4 months but i was at my previous job for 4 years. I left my previous job b/c they were clearly letting go of people regardless of how long or how loyal they were to the company. That really bothered me so I started looking and it was a great decision b/c now I have more time to take care of WR stuff and I have more stability here

Been at my job for less than a year but in the same position/industry for about 4 years now. I love what I do, but, if I didn't I would definitely look around...unless the money situation is extremely tight.

Re: NWR: How long have you been at your job?
been here for 5 years in April, and I like my job! In the medical field, its a different day everyday. I was only supposed to be at this job for 2 years until I got into a PA program, but I haven't been accepted yet
My boss keeps me on because we are very similar, and the office runs smoother when I am around. Its a great job, but not a career (at least for me).

i've been at my job for 3 years. i just graduated and should probably start looking for a new one, but with the wedding planning and the vacation i have scheduled off, i might just stay put until after the wedding.

Re: NWR: How long have you been at your job?
Ive been at my current job for little over a year now, and I love it. If my FH ever gets a stable career with benefits, then what I'm doing now is what I'll be doing 20 years from now... But one of us needs a 'normal' career (one of us meaning my FH lol)

That's another think! It's a whole 'corporate attitude' they're constantly 'restructuring' I don't think i'm at risk; but you never know!
I just don't want to leave this job; and end up being let go from another company!

i've been at my job for 8 years now. in this industry even if you don't stay in one office you go to another and basically do the same thing. everyone knows everyone else. i think after the wedding i might take a look around

Just keep looking! Longevity doesn't mean a thing anymore except for benefit time and if they give you more money. You are better off changing jobs before you have kids. It's much easier when you already have time accrued (depending on how your job dictates those things). I would be looking for a new job, but there's no point right now. After the wedding we will likely move out of state, so I'm stuck where I am until then.

i know what you mean but i took a risk even though i knew i was safe at my other company. I just dont want to work for a company where they don't value their employees. (and i think now my old job realizes that they made a mistake - suckers!)
if you're going to be safe where you are and are really afraid of being let go at another place, then stay. I left b/c i really hated my other place and the work that i did

Re: NWR: How long have you been at your job?
I've been at my job for 3 whole months!
Prior to that I worked in the same industry, different company and was there for 4 years! The last 2 were spent working from home b/c the company was falling a part and I was too loyal to my boss to leave her high and dry so I stayed and ultimately shot myself in the foot.
Only leave if you get another job lined up (just saying) - personally, I would wait it out. I like what I do - I should get paid more but coming from my last situation I am just happy to be working!

Re: NWR: How long have you been at your job?
i know exactly how you feel! I have been at my job for 6 years and have the same thoughts of leaving. Part of me wants to leave to try something new (same field but new surroundings) and also bc i feel that is the best way to make more money (my job gives the standard 3% raise each year). But on the flip side I know i am fortunate to have a job, especially in this economy. So for now i weighed all options and I am staying here....i need the job security and benefits (4 weeks vaca) and of course the income. i am also not in a high stress job and have the luxury to take time off come in late/leave early when necessary and with the thoughts of having a family soon that is a HUGE benefit (esp since FH has a strict job where he needs to go to work from 7-5:30 and cant take off much). I would still look and keep your options open...cant hurt to interview. If you get a job offer then sit down and consider it all.

Oh yea; i would never leave unless i have another offer in writing (and of course more $$). I also feel like i should just be happy i have a job!
