My friend is telling me to claim more so that you get more back in your check and then switch it back after the wedding...
I have no idea about this.

Re: NWR: How many do you claim?
I claim 0. Be careful, you will get more in your paycheck now but will owe come tax time.
My first year of working I had claimed 6 (No clue why or how) and I owed 2200. Such a shock I wasn't expecting!!!
Now I always get a nice refund since I claim 0.

Claim 0. This way you are more likely to get a refund. If you claim more, you might have to pay.

Re: NWR: How many do you claim?
If you work only 1 job & have deductions (home or student loan interest) you'd probably be OK claiming 1.
If you claim 0 then usually a little more than necessary is taken out and you'll almost always get a refund.
I've read up on Suze Ormans opinion on this though. She doesn't believe in the government taking out more than necessary-you should take out exactly what you need. You can use the W4 withholding calculator on the IRS.GOV website to truly see what you should claim. Suze's take on it is that by taking out MORE than necessary; you're giving the government an interest free loan on YOUR money. And if you can; take just what you need out of your pay for taxes; and use that 'extra' money you're getting each pay period and put it into a savings account gaining interest. Just in case you end up owing you should ideally have the money on hand to pay it.

Right now, I claim 0 or 1 I can't remember... And he suggested I change it until November ... then change it back since we need the extra $$ now

This 100%, makes no sense to let the gvt use your money interest free! I've always claimed 1, now that I have a mortgage & deductions I'm moving up to 2.
