FH has been trying hard for the past year or so to quit on his own with help from nothing but has failed I don't know how many times now. Does anyone know if any of those quiting aids really work? I mean like chewing gum, hypnosis, that lazer-ear thingy or anything else?? What have you seen work on people you know?? Thanks guys!

Re: nwr: how to quit smoking?
My dad chews on plastic straws. It helps a lot. It keeps that oral fixation satisfied.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Re: nwr: how to quit smoking?
I stopped, it will be 2 years., I did it cold Turkey. My sister stopped cold turkey.
Honestly I was so afraid I was going to gain massive weight from not smoking so what I did was Diet and exercise and that took my mind off of smoking and kept me busy so that helped me alot and I got into great shape!

Good for FH trying to quit!!!
My MOH did laser a few years ago, as did one of my customer's and it worked for both! I think she paid around $250 (somewhere in NJ) and then had the option to go back for 'touch ups' if she had cravings.... HTH & good luck to FH!!

Re: nwr: how to quit smoking?
Thanks guys, FH had just asked me to look into the lazer treatment for him and to look for gyms next to where we'll be moving. So that looks like its a combination of what you guys have been telling me. Cold turkey just hasn't worked for him so I hope this different tactic will be better.

I quit 3 years ago. COLD TURKEY baby. It's the only way. My brother quit the same way. I WISH WISH WISH FH would quit. I hate the smell now. I told him it would be his wedding gift to me.

I never smoked but always hated the smell and taste. Fh told me he'd quit before we were engaged, then when that didn't happen, it was for new years, then randomly he'd quit but only for a couple days... He's been saying before we get married but I just can't keep my hopes up. He wants to quit too, so its not like I'm making him do it, to clear that up. The longest he's gone was for a month.... at least he doesn't hide it from me, ya know?

i quit cold turkey almost 2 years ago. i got addicted to sunflower seeds and sugerfree candy. totally worked! you have to be strong and fight the urge...find something else to do when you want one...strech, jump rope, splash your face with water. usually the urge passes!

Re: nwr: how to quit smoking?
#1 you have to want to do it yourself... you have to be mentally ready for it... I think most people go wrong when they are just trying to please a nagging family member or friend
I have a friend who smoked more than a pack a day for years.... he was able to quite by using the patch.. doesnt work for everyone but it worked for him
my other friend hasnt smoked in 3 weeks and hes doing it by using the commit losenges (they now come in some cherry flavor that he says is real good) and he also chews on these super strong minty toothpicks .... i even like em and use em lol

i quit cold turkey 11 months ago, but i have a few friends who used the patch and said it helped. ALso, i heard lollipops and sucking candy are good to stop the crave, not so good on the teeth though. Good luck to your FH!

My FH promised me the same thing but I know he still smokes. He's a light smoker anyway. He never smokes around me. I never even smell smoke on him. I tell him you smoke so little you might as well quit. He likes to smoke when he drinks.

chantix!!!
My FH has been taking this for over a month now and he is doing SO well! I am super proud of him! He hasn't smoked a single cigarette in nearly 2 weeks. He's been chewing alot of gum and sucking on chocolate candy like Kisses and stuff, and drinking a lot of coffee. I hear that Chantix can have bad side effects but hopefully he won't be taking it much longer. He had tried so many other options before this, but this is the one thats working best! Good luck to your FH! If he really wants to quit, he can do it!!

Re: nwr: how to quit smoking?
I quit about 3 years ago with nicotine gum. I am still addicted to it!!! I guess its better than smoking, but I need to stop. My sister quit two years ago with the patch. Her motivations was she wanted to get pregnant, and wanted to be sure that she was totally quit before trying. I think when it comes down to it, the motivation is really important.

Chantix is the best!!!!!!! most insurances now pick up the cost- even if not it is still so worth it!!!
I took it and quit within a week and a half! I was always around smokers and I had NO CRAVINGS!!! I am a total a@$ because a few months after I resorted back to smoking. I am going to retake chantix again- I have to quit soon for me chantix+willpower= success
I am a nurse and when I told my patients, alot of my patients took it as well and they did great!!!! It really does work!
