NWR- HPV vaccine Gyno recommendations

Original post by MaureenM618

/hi. I want to get the HPV vaccine but my doctor and a few of the others close by do not offer it I'm turning 25 next month and need to make an appointment ASAP. I headr that insurance won't cover it after the age of 25. Can anyone recommend their gyno who offers the vaccine???? I'm in Queens. I would prefer Queens but I'm willing to go into Nassau as well. Thanks!!!

i don't 'plan' on sleeping with anyone else either. but god forbid u get attacked or other life changes occur that u don't expect happen at least ur protected.

That's very true I didn't think about that.

I agree one million percent!

Truth is, it matters more who your DH or FH has slept with even if you are a virgin or had limited partners. Women get it from men. If he slept with one person who had it, he could pass it to you even innocently. It doesnt have to happen the first, second or one millionth time you've had s e x. You never know how and when you contract it because it is not something you can see (like a rash or sores) Sadly, many women do not think about this. I think they are kidding themselves if they don't consider this as a possibility.

I have told my story a few times here and on LIF. But I will here again, if it can save anyone the grief, paranoia and sheer anxiety it caused me, I know I did the right thing.

As quoted from my LIF post:

'I wish Gardasil would have been around years ago when I would have been a child (or at least qualified to get it).

The recent course of events that have happened in my life may not have happened at all if a vaccine was available and worked for me. Long story short, scar tissue from a cone biopsy (with a diagnosis of HPV) left my cervix stenotic and thus I was not able to get pregnant. I had to have [4 GYN] procedures last week under a general anesthetic in an outpatient setting and was frankly terrified that I would not be able to have children at all. The anxiety and fright I experienced, I wouldn't wish on anyone.

If I have female children, and there is more conclusive evidence that an HPV vaccine is effective and safe, I will SURELY have my daughters vaccinated. No question.'

I don't want my daughters worrying about cancer. It was horrible for a while for DH and myself. When I had my pre-operative testing done, I sat in the lobby and watched a commercial for Gardasil and wanted to scream 'You couldn't have had this 10 years ago when I was 26?????'

In the end, you have to consider what is best for yourself. Ladies today should consider themselves lucky you have choices. I didn't.

you can get tested for HPV to see if you have it before going for the vaccine

Using condoms may lower your risk - but you can certainly still get it because its any skin to skin contact

I never had unprotcted sex with partners and still wound up with HPV. I have tested neg. lately, thank goodness...

The fact they want to give it to newborns bothers me...
