NWR: huntington

Does anyone live in Huntington? What areas are nice? Is this a good town to buy a home in??

I work in Queens who else makes that commute?!

TIA!

I work there, on Park Ave. The Village is nice, some gang activity in Huntington Station, but the police are trying to cut that down. I know some people who live there and I haven't heard them complain.

I teach there. It is sad to say but I would never live there. There are def. the wealthy, beautiful areas but the crime and gangs is to close for comfort. I would keep looking.

The school district is I think El-something or other? Is that where you teach? Or in Huntington... I didn't think the crime was that bad there

I teach in Huntington. The crime is really under wraps. I see it first hand. Are you looking in the Elwood School District? I am not to sure about the distrcit other then the budget just failed and they lost a lot of teachers.

Yea the woman told me that... that really ***** about the budget... the area we looked in is in the Elwood district... is that nicer?

My mom mentioned the gang activity and I was so surprised! But the house we saw wasn't in that district so I guess that's good?

I think it is better. Try and find out how close the house is to the Huntington and South Huntington districts or if it is closer to Commack.

I live in Huntington near Greenlawn and it is the Elwood School District. I love it here. I live in the Timber Ridge development which is about 1/2 a mile north of Dix Hills - sort of a central area between Huntington, Dix Hills, Greenlawn and Elwood.

There are bad areas of Huntington Station and of Greenlawn, but it is easy to steer clear of them. Elwood Schools and Harborfield School District (which is East Norhtport) are among the best on Long Island.

FM me if you have any questions!!!

Harborfields is def. a great district. It is so hard because every place has it's good and bads.

Thanks ladies!! It's hard to believe I grew up on LI because I know nothing about most of the towns!! I have been living in Queens for the past 5 years and have no idea where to start.

I live in Northport and commute from Huntington to the city every day. If you have any questions about it, I think I have it down to an exact science. It can be rough at times, but I've gotten very used to it in the last three years. The mornings are fine because there are a lot of express trains. The trains home after 5:30 are mostly local, but they run pretty regularly.

FH and I LOVE the town of Northport (we both grew up here) and hope to one day buy a home here and raise our family. It's expensive, but the town is really great.

HTH.

My Aunt and Uncle used to live in Northport and I remember it being really nice. I know that commute seems so daunting... I would be driving which is probably worse. I teach though so hopefully I can beat all of the traffic if I leave before 7... I live 10 minutes from work now so I am spoiled!

I think it's worth it to have a longer commute if you have a nice place, we live in an apartment now and it's just too small and I miss having a yard!

Huntington is Amazing. AVOID huntington station.

Just wanted to add that no matter what town you move into there will always be a neighboring area that is labeled 'bad'.

right I agree with this. FH kept telling me that on LI, it's typical to have a mixed neighborhood, with good areas and bad.

ITA....born and raised!!! It is a great town/village that has soooo much to offer. The taxes are a bit high though.

eta: regarding the school districts....Huntington is a large town - and it does have it's own school district, but people who live on the outskirts of Huntington could also be in other school districts (Harborfields, S. Huntington, Elwood, Cold Spring Harbor, etc)....

I don't live in Huntington, but I do work at the Hospital. I love it there. I was just out in The Village last night. I think it's a wonderful community and a great place to live. If FH and I decide to stay on LI when we buy our next place (in like 5 years) we're thinking anywhere from Huntington to Smithtown.

I love the village. It's so nice and a lot of out door seating. A lot of 'mom and pop' stores too.

Thanks everyone! I don't know how far Huntington Village is from where we were looking, but I will take a trip there soon... I can't even remember the last time I was there!

NOT TRUE!! I'm offended TBO. I live in Huntington Station. FH and I bought a beautiful house in a great neighborhood!!

My advice is to just drive around the area and you'll see if you like it or not.

Yes, there are areas that are a bit scary. However, I grew up in WB and Lindy and there too are areas where you wouldn't catch me walking alone at night!

Overall, I'm extremely happy with our decision to move here. The only thing I'm not happy about, is my commute to work.. But it's GREAT here!
