Does anyone live in Huntington? What areas are nice? Is this a good town to buy a home in??

I work in Queens who else makes that commute?!

TIA!

Just wanted to add that no matter what town you move into there will always be a neighboring area that is labeled 'bad'.

right I agree with this. FH kept telling me that on LI, it's typical to have a mixed neighborhood, with good areas and bad.

ABSOLUTELY!!!

Huntington is Amazing. AVOID huntington station.

NOT TRUE!! I'm offended TBO. I live in Huntington Station. FH and I bought a beautiful house in a great neighborhood!!

My advice is to just drive around the area and you'll see if you like it or not.

Yes, there are areas that are a bit scary. However, I grew up in WB and Lindy and there too are areas where you wouldn't catch me walking alone at night!

Overall, I'm extremely happy with our decision to move here. The only thing I'm not happy about, is my commute to work.. But it's GREAT here!

This is what I was going to say.

I grew up in whats officially 'Huntington Station.' But in fact, its South Huntington, west hills area. I grew up right by Whitman and went to school there. That area is HUNTINGTON STATION and is a beautiful neighborhood FYI.

The area that people are referring to is the area around the Huntington LIRR stop, which isn't great....but I've always said the funny part about Huntington is that you can live on a great block, and the next block over is SCARY. Its odd how they're sandwiched together.

Both Huntington and South Huntington schools are decent. In fact, the principal at Whitman just won some awards for his 'turnaround' of the HS. Harborfields is good, but they have their issues too. I have friends that went there that have plenty of stories to share. School is what you make of it. There are bad kids in every single one.

I don't live in Huntington anymore but my mom is still there so I'm still pretty familiar with the area. If you have any specific questions, feel free to FM me. I moved because I work in the city and the commute was too long for me.

Good luck with your search!

I live 2 mins driving distance from train stop. And around the block from me is very bad. Its like exactly how u say, cuz my block is a whole dif world. And we have no problems!

Just wanted to add this though.. any area around a train station isn't the best for some reason. Ever notice that?
