NWR- I am drafting a much needed letter to my mother.
It is time I settle things for good with her. I no longer want her in my life, although she is not at the moment. But I also don't want her trying to sneak back in either.
I want to make it fair, but honest. I don't want to sugarcoat my feelings on ths issues at hand. I want to make sure she knows exactly how I feel and why I feel that way.
Does anyone have any suggestions before I start?
TIA

wow.. that is serious.... because I don't know your issues , I can't really understand, but it's a shame that you and your mom have that type of relationship...
My mom can get under my skin and sometimes I can't tolerate to be around her, but I find it hard to believe that people want to cut off a mom, dad, son, daughter... They are us.. Isn't there a way that you can keep ur distance but yet tolerate eachother when necessary???
I say this because , you only get one mother and if she is to leave this earth, I hope you don't have any feelings of regret that you didn't approach the situation different...
Again, this is only my thoughts because I don't know ur issues...
Sorry that you have to experience this in your life.... I will pray for you and your family!

Well, I understand what you are saying, but this has gone way beyond her getting under my skin. Our history is violent, to say the least and I do not want her in my life. If she were to die tomorrow, I honestly would not have any feelings either way. FM me if you want to know the whole scoop, but know that this has been 29 years of abuse, both physical and emotional, and I have had enough.

What I would do is just write freely without structure at first - pour everything out that you need to say. Then go back for grammar, and proper sentence structure, adding things in, taking some out, etc.

I think Heather's idea is the way to go - just write it all out - don't hold back. But then once you're done walk away for a bit and then return to fix it up. You'll see it with a clearer eye. Remember that no matter what you want to be the better person and be as respectful as you can with this.
Don't feel bad about this either - no one knows the history. If this is the decision you have made then you should have support on it. I am sure it was a very difficult decision that you have made over time.

Having made a similar decision, I understand how hard this is. I like Heather's idea- just get it all out.

I'm really sorry to hear this...
They say sometimes the best way to get you feelings across is to write it , so you are making a great decision...
I don't want to get all in your business, so that's why I'm not going to FM you..
I believe that you have thought long and hard on this so you know what's best for you!
Good luck, and I hope things turn out better in your future...

I am sorry, to hear of what you are going through. I have a similar problem, but what I have done is just keep in touch with her she is not allowed to give me her two cents on anything . My momther is and will always be that my mother and our of respect for myself I talk to her once in a while, she is part of the wedding but will not get any special treatments there have been other women in my life that have done a better job then my own mother. I hope for you that one day things can be resolved even if its a once month call. I do share the same feelings that if she were to leave this earth right this second it would be some kind of relieve for my sister and I. God knows why he chose some moms to be the way they are and I believe is mainly to make sure we become strong good women

Very well said. No one else truly knows unless they have walked in your shoes. I always encourage people to patch things up with their families but when it comes to abuse, I agree, enough is enough. I have a very short fuse when it comes to that. I'm sorry you have to deal with this.

One more suggestion since I think this will be really helpful for you. I would write the letter and then put it away for at least two weeks. Re-read it and if it frames what you need to say and you still feel comfortable sending it, do so. Just because she is your mother is not a reason to keep her in your life. No one should have to be abused.
