NWR: I am going to cry

NWR: I am going to cry

Stony Brook did it again, but this time I am so stuck. I went to register and noticed that Financial Aid put me on the hold list for something so bogus, while dealing with that I was closed out of the ONLY class I have left until I graduate!! I had a deadline to get my masters by September 1!!! If I cant get into this class what happens to my temporary certificate???? I called everyone and they tell me there is NOTHING they can do.. The only way I can get in is if the teacher grants me permission which they said doesnt normall happen. I am waiting for the teachers response. How could this happen and why dont they offer enough classes so students like me can graduate! :(

I will be soo happy when I dont have to deal with financial aid or stony brook EVER again!!!

OMG! I went to SBU for three semesters too! Hate their system. I honestly think your best bet would be w/the professor. Could yolu possibly sign up for another section if offerred? Then attend the section you do want and have the professor sign you in?

My sister also went there for math for 4 years and had trouble so often. She kept warning me not to go there and I didnt listen. They even gave me my fall financial aid check this February!! A little late??

Talk to the prof.. also have you called the state and asked for an extension on your prov. certification?

Beg and plead to the professor- I have seen them change their minds.

Re: NWR: I am going to cry

You can apply for an extention for your permanent certification...just look online at the website and there is a form you have to fill out.

Its so funny you posted this because I was JUST on the phone with them because of a stupid hold they put on my record

Re: NWR: I am going to cry

I don't know anything about the certificate but when I went to Stonybrook, I had similar problems with being locked out of classes. You're best bet is to speak with the professor and at the very least, audit the class and wait for an opening. Good luck.

The SAME EXACT THING happened to ME!! EXACTLY!!!

Don't worry!!!

I e-mailed EVERY professor who had a class that would fit the requirement for me and told them - I would really like to take your class, it is my last class to graduate and I know it is full, but I would appreciate it if you could find a spot for me if something opens up.

I waited and sweated and waited and sweated (b/c my temp. cert. was expiring too) and one prof. e-mailed me! And then two weeks later, another one did too!

Don't worry - just e-mail EVERYONE and see what they could do. I also left messages on voice mails but found e-mail was the most successful.

I wish you the best of luck and FM if you have any questions!

P.S. - I drove past SBU the other day and said to my FH - 'Thank God I never have to go back if I don't want to!'

I graduated from SB in 1990. I went there for 4 years. I never had a bad experience. I registered early and all was fine. Maybe the computer age has not been good to them, because it was okay way back when!!!!!

Re: NWR: I am going to cry

I work at SBU, so I can see both sides. It's hard because there is no other recourse to get students to pay bills other than to put a registration and graduation hold. I have also seen it from the student side, since I also got my master's there while working (also through the EEP program). Which class are you missing? Who is the professor? If you are really in a bind I would suggest talking to the SPD Advising Center, and then either the Dean of SPD or the Assistant Dean for the Education Program. Both were very helpful, and I graduated last May (and have since started my doctorate ). Good luck.

I'm sooo sorry - I hear what your going through!! Be sure to keep good records of your requests (emails, etc...) try to get it all in writing. Just in case you need to apply for an extension... Best of luck!

Re: NWR: I am going to cry

nov04LIbride - What I'm more angry about than anything is I did pay!

They CHANGED my loan amount after giving it to me. Never told me and just expected me to know I mean geez! I called financial aid and I said, why wasnt I notified of this and she said well theres 8 of us and thousands of you. Well.... I just wanted to say duuuuh!! Get some more help then!! It literally makes me sick to my stomache. I emailed the professor but have heard nothing yet.

So Sorry to hear about your situation. The financial aid office always manages to mess something up. But I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get permission to get into that class. Good Luck and Keep smiling!
