NWR: I am really dissapointed

FH's birthday is this Saturday and I had a planned a whole afternoon and evening. He's been talking about it all week and he even took vacation so that we would spend the day together. I was really looking forward to spending some uninterupted time with him. Between our very different working schedules and his kids, we very rarely have 'us' time.

His oldest (she's 13) asks him today if she could take him out to dinner for his birthday. I am so proud of her for wanting to do this but I am so dissapointed. I wanted to be so selfish and say that I planned this whole dinner and that he made plans with me first but I couldn't do it. As upset as I am I just cannot take this away from him and make him feel bad for doing it. Instead I told him that I'll be waiting at home for them with a cake and to have a wonderful time.

I know I'll get over this but I just needed to share.

I'm sorry that your plans didn't get to happen.

Maybe you can have a special birthday celebration the next time FH has a day off. I hope it works out for you.

I am sorry, Stef, that things didn't work out as planned. But you are an amazing person for letting his daughter do this for him. I think it's wonderful! Just think about the amazing night you'll have!

That is really sweet of you to not make him choose between you and his daughter. My FI has an 8 year old and so I know how you feel about the 'us' time. Maybe you could make him a nice lunch or dinner Friday night that could be just the 2 of you. Or take him out for a big breakfast Saturday morning, he'll be hungry again by dinnertime so it won't spoil his daughter's plans. Ask him what he wants, most likely it's probably for all of you to be together, not doing separate things for his bday.

I believe that B-days are month long events. This stems from never being able to celebrate my b-day on the actual day for various reasons. Pick another day and make it special for him. I know it will be hard to schedule, but it will mean so much more for him that you were understanding and willing to make him a belated b-day celebration. Also know that as his daughter grows up she will have other priorities and it will not always be a struggle for his time.

Somewhere you are getting major points for that one!!!! cheers to you for being selfless- it doesn't happen much!

You will get your moment with FH- there is always Sunday Breakfast in Bed!
