Someone I work with was critiically injured when she went out to lunch today. I can't get the vision out of my head.
The whole school was a mess today! The teachers and the poor students were crying all afternoon.
I can't sleep or think about anything else.
I just keep thinking and thinking and crying. How do you get it out of your head?

Re: NWR: I am really sad....
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear it. That sounds like an awful thing to go through, especially when you're freaked out but you're the one who's supposed to be keeping kids calm. I went through something like that a few years ago, when I stumbled on a guy who had been murdered (really). You might be freaked out for a while, and that's okay, you need to feel what you're feeling now and just be around people who love you and who can give you a shoulder to cry on. With them, you'll be feeling better soon.

Yes, she was hit by a car and dragged 100 ft. I saw her pinned underneath the car from the window and so did my class. They were crying and freaking out. I did by best not to freak out either, but I am human.
The school had a crisis intervention team come in to talk to everyone and the UFT president even came. I think it helped the kids, but the adults were too freaked out .
I taught with this teacher last year and we were always there for each other this year. I feel so bad for her family and her class.
I bit my lip not to cry in front of them.
I just can't get this out of my head!

Re: NWR: I am really sad....
wow - that's awful. so sorry that anyone had tolive thru or see that.
it's awful when the kids look at you to help them keep it together when you're about tolose it, too.
I've had to do that with my own daughter when my 1st husband left - she was only 5 - days where I was a wreck, I knew she was watching -it was horrible to have to try so hard to not let anything show.
I was teaching at a hs on 9/11...I'll never forget the look on my students' faces - it was 9th period - by then they knew what was going on - that the towers had been hit, andwe were all afraid of a war breaking out here in the u.s. - or more attacks. My 17 & 18 yr old seniors were in my class - they're all so tough, those 18 yr old boys. Then we heard what sounded like (and was) a military jet flying right toward our school - those tough boys turned back to babies and they looked at me with such fear in their eyes and said'oh my God - what is that - what's happening?!' All I could say was 'I just don't know - let's get as far away from the windows as we can - ' and I started to cry, just like them.
at the end of the class I was hugging them as they left that day.
some days - hopefully not many - you aren't going to be able to control what's happening - like today or 9/11, and you just do your best, cry if you need to, and let your students (or children) know that it's okay to be sad or afraid.
hang in there, say a prayer for your friend, and cry if it helps.
we're here if you want to talk.

i think only time will help. i'm so sorry you are going through this to you and prayers for this woman and her family and all that are touched. i think it's only natural to feel the way you are... and if the kids see that you're in distress too, that's okay - because you ARE human and it will let them see it's okay to cry too.

I'm sorry to hear that this happened. Just try to focus on other things as hard as it may seem. Or just think everything out so the thoughts will not linger.
I have just been able to fall asleep after going to my aunts funeral on sunday. The image of my uncle not being able to let the funeral directors close the casket was burnt into my memory. so I know how u feel.

How do you get it out of your head?
I would try to keep busy and just do my best to not think about it ~ it is hard... i probably would be like you and think about it over and over....just try to focus on something else if you can.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your friend
That's pretty bad. Im so sorry about that. I wouldn't try to stuff down your emotions. Just let it all out. That's a tough vision to get out of your head. I don't know what to say so i'm not going to keep on. Just give you some of these and know you and everyone involved will be in my prayers. Please let us know if your friend makes it.

He was there at the scence? Everyone that came to help was so good to her. I want to thank him for that.
I went to the hospitial on Friday and some people from the UFT were there, even the president to support us. There is a crisis team that is coming to our school tomorrow and I am so scared to go in. How can I walk by her classroom? I work with her students at the end of the day and they are probably going to be so sad. How can I pull it together for them?
Thanks for the prayers.
