NWR: I have a friend who is starting a collection of First Edition Books... w/ Poll

So I want to get her one for Christmas.

I was checking eBay and I have a couple of choices in my price range. I know it's tricky finding an ACTUAL first edition, but I trust this seller, his descriptions include whether it's a first or second printing and the coding inside the book.

Now, she just bought a Hemingway first edition, Across the River and into the Trees , which is not as critically acclaimed as his other works, but she didn't care, she got a good price and she likes Hemingway. I think this is her first and only 1st edition, but she definitely wants more.

Should I stick to Hemingway? Or should I do something a little different and maybe get Tropic of Cancer or Animal Farm? or something else?

I think I would go with the Hemingway. You know she like his work and you cant go wrong getting her something by him

For her, I would probably stick with Hemingway also, since you know she likes him.

But you totally got me thinking... if I had a first edition copy of Orwell's '1984' I would LOVE that. But that's just me. Great idea though for your friend!

Personally, I'd go for something different. I'd probably do Tropic of Cancer.

Hemingway bc if she's looking to make a collection that will be worth $$ than having a set from the same author is more beneficial imo
