So FH was fired last week from a job where he was an outstanding technician. And the sad thing is he is starting to process for the NYPD and his job recieved the reference paperwork about 3 weeks ago and that is when the B-Sh*t started. The day after the job got his paperwork they made him work in Brooklyn everyday (instead of Long Island). They wrote him up for leaving early after they had given him permission to. And then when they eventually fired him they said it was because of things that He had always been told do do. So basically his job got mad that he wanted to be on the NYPD and then the found reasons to let him go. But since they didnt specifically fire him because of the NYPD it *****. It is just very ironic...dont ya think. And now FH is jobless...we own a house and have a mortgage...and we are paying for a wedding. But since the NYPD academy would start in Jan (if he even gets on...which is not a definate) it is impossible for him to start a new job for 2 months. I just needed to vent and maybe hear some words of wisdom. Thank you girls

I'm sorry that happened!! I hope everything works out with NYPD. Is there anyway he can do freelance work as a technician until NYPD starts up?

I'm so sorry.. that's not right that his job could do that. Things will work out though... they always do.

Is he able to collect Unemployment for a little while?? He should at least TRY to file a claim. My job let me go for reasons unknown a while back and i was able to collect unemployment for a few months. It gave me almost the same amount of money as i was making while working. It wasn't even THAT much of a paycut. But i know that there's a lot of rules with it - like you can't be fired for certain reasons, you'd need to have been 'layed off' or whatever. Not sure if it's an option, but worth looking into maybe?

So sorry to hear that. Like PP's have mentioned tell him to apply for unemployenment asap. If he was let go he has the right to claim. Just in case they are aholes in his previous jobs and deny him, he can appeal that decision with the state. At least for now that would be better than nothing. The type of job that he had is always needed even with this economy so he should go and apply to places in person. I know that he will get hired soon and that everything will slowly but surely get better for you both.

You can still collect unemployment and do another job on the books that pays up to a certain amount. He can also get a job that pays cash (bartending, waitering) for the time being.
A lot of bars in Manhattan allow you to do guest bartending where you bartend for one night and bring your friends. You get to keep your tips which usually amounts to a few hundred dollars. Just google 'guest bartending nyc' online. My fiance guest bartended at Black Finn (really crowded on Thurs and Fri) to help save up for a ring. I know McFaddens and Calico Jack's also allow guest bartending. It's good because it's not a commitment but you go home with some extra cash.

Isn't there a governmental agency he could report this to for an investigation??
