so I was on the Home board and I posted on a thread about home prices- what I know from my FH that most of the prices are a little over inflated and that we are waiting yada yada yada, according to him now is not the time to buy etc. ( I said in the begining where I am getting my info from)
I was really just trying to help- I wanted to make people feel better for waiting- but didn't mean any offense to those who have bought a home already-
needless to say I got an earful b/c what I wrote is offensive to those who bought and are happy- (I don't really see how??)
sorry I just needed to vent-
it's not like I am talking out of my Butt- besides you can still find a good deal-

thanks
just in general, they say you should be prepared to live in a home at least 5 years before you plan on selling- mainly to recoup closing costs etc. so you might be ok
this is a tough descesion to make- but keep looking you might find something that is priced right - were you could make money when you sell it-
Just wanted to say I appreciate your feedback. As a first time home buyer that is currently in the market, I love to hear both Negatives and Positives about buying in this market. One person may have some informatin I did not hear about or a point I never would have thought about myself. Please keep providing us with your opinion, you can't make everyone happy. Just wanted to send a big thanks to YOU for those you have helped!

That is so true.
It's good to hear eithe side of the story because there always is both sides.
If there is anyone like me, we are considering something that we WON'T be in for 5 years and we know that the risk we are running is not recouping closing costs and the possibility of inflated value.
So Beth....keep goin' with your bad self!

Re: NWR I was just trying to be helpful...
When we were moving furniture (just an old bedroom set) from my mother's house into our brand new RENTAL apartment, someone came up to FH and offered him $800,000 in cash for a 5 bedroom split level ranch on a bend with a finsihed basement and central air etc blah blah blah in Roslyn Heights. LMAO. They thought the house was for sale. Funny thing is, Mom wasnt even home, I didnt live with her. FH was the only one there. Some random person on the street saw a moving truck in the driveway and was ready to make a deal then and there. FH jokingly said he upped the offer to $1.2m, hoping to get a cool mil. SOLD!!!
Beth my dear, is that a good price?

HELLS YES! I know she can get more than that. HOWEVER, she is determined NEVER to leave that house. She is convinced that on the day she dies, a cement truck will back up in the driveway, fill up the house and VOILA - Momma Goldi's mausoleum.
(And you think I am nuts over my love for cheese? SLOWLY things make sense to you all now!)

It is very hard to think of anyone other than MY family living in that house. That will be the hardest thing - the day it is sold!

I feel the same way about the house I grew up in- I don't think I could even drive down the block- but given our situation I can see why we would feel an extra attachment

Don't worry about it!!! Some people get WAY too worked up. I just bought too, and it doesn't offend me at all. The timing is different for people to buy real estate.
I'm a firm believer that you get the right place for you, regardless of the market.

Re: NWR I was just trying to be helpful...
Oh, Beth don't worry about it. People get all sensitive over everything.
I do not understand the whole home prices thing... I know that I cannot afford to buy a house on LI... I think that prices HAVE to start to come down, OR there needs to be new affordable housing built, otherwise so many people are age are going to start moving away (as many of them already have) and then the economy will collapse.
I think its starting to happen already, there are 2 houses on my street that have been on sale for at least 6 months... a few years ago they would have been sold instantly. You are right, if people don't buy crappy houses for $600,000 then they won't be listed for that price.

Re: NWR I was just trying to be helpful...
Well Beth, I definately agree with you that prices are REDICULOUSLY high and I REFUSE to buy a house thats not worth the money they are asking. I will wait. Prices have to come down. So many people are leaving the island because they can not afford to buy! Who are they going to sell to? I would leave now if I could!

We just bought in the DC area (also ridiculoulsy inflated) and I don't find your post the slightest bit offensive. Wouldn't have if I lived in NY either. You were trying to help and I think that was obvious. Definitely not your issue, someone elses!

Don't worry about other people, really. Some people on these sites get really hyper-sensitive, and then become unnecessarily mean. It's not you - they have their own issues, and their nasty replies make that clear. It's happened to me before too. I think people forget that #1 we're just trying to help, and #2, everything anyone of us ever says is always JMO, take it or leave it.
Sorry for starting my own vent, but I really hate when people get nasty, and it annoys me when people say, just say JMO then - come on now, duh. Everything I say is JMO. Anyway, sorry for the vent. Don't let it get to you.
