NWR: If you live togehter, how do you seperate the bills?

Do you go by percentage?

How do you seperate the bills?

FH and I are trying to figure this out and it's very confusing!!!!!!!

FH pays the rent and I pay the small things like food shopping, light, and cable. I pay a small portion of rent also.

We put all our money into one account and have 2 seperate accounts for personal money. The bills get paid out of the joint account

We have joint accounts now so everything is just paid off that way. What his is mine and whats mine is his.

Fh pays the rent and I pay all the utilities and the groceries.

We have joint accounts now so everything is just paid off that way. What his is mine and whats mine is his.

Same w/us, once we bought our house in June we got a joint bank acct. and just combine all our money and all the bills are paid from there.

We have a joint 'house' account where the rent utilities and groceries etc. get paid from and then we have separate accounts for our own spending money. And then we have a joint savings. we both put in the same amount for rent and savings.

this is what I want to do too. It sounds like it works the best way. so how do you know the amount you put in your OWN account for personal money? Do you do a percentage of your pay?

Not living together. But I figured we could split everything in half...rent, phone, electricity, food..etc. This is just hoping..dont know if it will actually happen this way.

See I would have to think too much that is why I don't do that as of yet. Maybe later.

We both have a Joint account andI just write the Bills from there. I don't separte anything. It works Good that way.

When we FIRST moved in together, FH kept a ledger book detailing each bill and who paid it and blah blah blah. It was REALLY annoying because he made more than me at the time. And it always looked like he was doing more and contributing more.

And we would ARGUE about it! 'I paid the rent!' 'Well I bought the groceries!' 'Well YOU were supposed to buy the birthday present for Mike' 'I would have but YOU forgot to pay the car insurance...' and on and on...

Anyway... the ledger book went out the window after a year. And now we honestly don't keep track. We both put our money into the bank. And all of our bills come out of that same account. We don't have 'This is mine and that is yours'. It wasn't healthy for us and we eliminated it.

We kind of look at this as a total partnership. We share responsibility. I can't even FATHOM telling him that I will pay the mortgage if he pays the oil bill. It is laughable because when I work for my paycheck, I am doing it for US, for OUR FAMILY - not for me.

We have joint accounts.....so the checks for bills get taken out of our joint checking. We have separate checking too for our 'own' money but my money is his and his money is mine. (good thing he makes more hehe)

IT depends, you know what kind of money you spend and he knows what kind he spends. What we did was we broke down the bills for the month, divided the bills by 4 and figured out what absolutely postively HAD to go away per week. And then give yourself a budget. He keeps 100 and you keep 100 for yourself. This way, you decide you want to go to a nice dinner you have extra in the account, or go shopping or a nice weekend-you always have extra
