We divide it like this: Fh pays 100% and I pay 0%... I hate it but I'm unemployed so until I get a job (which could be soon if my interview on Wednesday goes well) things will definately change.

We don't have a joint checking yet. We alternate weeks when we pay for groceries and split the cable bill and renter. Our jobs cover our health insurance, though I may cover FH under mine to save $$$. We'e each making our own car payments and insurance and student loans. It works fairly well for now, but I think it'll be easier when we have a joint account.

FH and I split the rent, He pays: con Ed, cable, cell phones I pay Phone, groceries, household stuff I hope this helps!!!!

We dont seperate our bills. We combine our money and pay everythong together. He makes Aaaaaaalooooot more then I do so it works out justb fine hahaha

We used to do it differently. Now He pays for the mortgage and I pay utilities, car insurance and the bank loan....But we're working towards just having 1 bank account where all the bills get taken from there.... XOXOXO Kitty

I'm so glad someone mentioned this. We were just arguing about this yesterday.
What we're been doing now is...we have a joint and we each have a personal checking account. but we've been adding up what our bills are that affect eachother and putting that in the joint and the rest goes into our personal. but i feel once we're married my debt is his and his debt is mine. like my student loans. i like what one poster said. we're going to put all our money in a joint and take out 10% and put it in our personal checking accounts to buy what we want without explaining it.

FH and I do not make the same amount of money. Right now we each put the same amount into the wedding fund every month and we each pay half of the rent and bills and we each keep all of our own money. Except FH bonus' go into the wedding fund.
After the wedding we have decided on the following. All of our $$ goes into a joint account. All of our bills get paid from there. Bi-weekly transfers from there into a joint savings account. We each will then have a single account linked to the goint account. That account will have our weekly allowance in it. We have equal allowances.
Although we do not make the same money that doesn't mean that we don't work equally as hard. Hope this helps.

I think it depends on a lot of your circumstances. We've been living together for over a year now. When we moved in he made more money than I did and I had more debt then he did. So he paid the rent, I bought the groceries and we each paid for our own previous bills (cell phones, student loans, etc). He's not working right now (trying to start his own business) so I'm making more money, but because I'm paying for the wedding we're keeping the same arrangement.
I think it's completely fair that if one person earns more that their percentage of the responsibility should be more.

his salary pays for all the bills (except my student loans). my salary covers any extra (including bills we fall short on b/c of unforseen expenses, etc.), my student loans, and the rest goes into a savings account for us. honestly, it's sorta like a joint account (what's mine is his and vice versa) but we still have seperate accounts b/c our financial situations were different (i needed to keep track of my loans in a different account) when we first moved here from ny and we had accounts left over from when we were single. when we go back to ny in may we'll be opening up a joint account and closing the one here.

everything is one bank account. We're a family now. We have separate checking accts, but the majority of our paychecks go into joint accounts. All bills are paid from our joint checking.
