NWR: I'm being Sued!!

Ok so I just need to vent about how pathetic people are. 3 years ago I was in a car accident (which was not my fault it was a 4 car accident and I was the 3rd car). The people in the car infront of me got in there car and drove away after ems looked at the little girl in the car. No claim was ever filed through my insurance company or the 4th cars company for anything not even repairs to their car. Wednesday I get home and have package on my porch. All 3 people in the vehicle are suing me for 15 MILLION each!!!!!

My insurance company told me not to worry too much, they filed because they only had 3 years, the suite was filed on 6/29 the accident was 7/1/03.

Sorry for the rant but it just pisses me off since I was the one that left in an ambulance!

OMG- I know you are stressed right about now with this. I think your best bet is to let a lawyer or a friend who happens to be a laywer read the claim and make sure you dont waste your time/money in court. Sorry again to hear about this!!

Wow.... people are so inconsdierate and money hungry....

I think any judge will see that they only sued to get in before their time ran out... and the fact that they had absolutely no contact with you since then....

I think you'll be fine... but I am sorry that you have to deal with this stress. it's a shame that we live in such a litigious, money hungry society. and people wonder why insurance rates are so high... its' because of selfish people like these!

Seriously don't sweat it. I was in an accident many years ago where the person that caused it was drunk and fled on foot. The car was uninsured and the loser left his hurt girlfriend bleeding in the car. The girl turned around and sued everyone involved including me for 2 million dollars! They hit me!!

In the end she didn't get a dime. It's the attorney's that come up with these outlandish figures know that they will get nothing near that if anything at all.

You insurance will take care of all of this for you, not to worry

Don't worry... Nothing will happen to you .. the most that you will be inconvenienced is that you might have to go to a deposition ( Which is what I do schedule them for an Atty's office LOL ) and it might not even get that far if they can settle it or get the case dismissed... The atty's for your insurance company will take care of Everything //

My brother was slammed from behind and pushed into another car. The guy behind him claimed 100% responsibility and the woman my brother hit STILL sued us. It never went to court because my brother wasn't at fault, he was pushed into the car, but still, this woman was trying to get money from all ends.

Hang in there!

The insurance company won't pay the plaintiff any more money than the policy limit. However, if the accident were serious and the damages were more than the policy limit, the plaintiff could go after you personally for the amount above the policy limit (provided you don't have an umbrella policy which provides further protection).

Don't worry about it. Your insurance company will handle everything. The accident doesn't sound serious, and the damages are probably nowhere near your policy limit. It's common to sue for a MUCH higher number than what you think you could get. It's to the plaintiff's advantage to sue everyone involved in the accident regardless of fault.

I was in the same situation two years ago!!!! I was car three in a minor 4 car accident. Car #1 drove off and sued car #2 for a disgusting amount of money. The guy who caused the accident and I were sued as a result - we were brought in years later.

yes, they did that because their three year statute of limitations was about to be up-- it's completely ridiculous and i'm sure it will get handled-- but it is annoying b/c as a person, of course it's scary to receive something like that.

i didnt post about personal assests because it does not sound that serious .

ugh, I hate when I hear things like this. People are so sue-happy. Its things like this that make insurance rates so high!
Anyway, it sounds like they are just grasping at straws, I am sure you have nothing to worry about. My brother was in an accident once and the other person tried to sue him but nothing came of it. People are just out to make money. Its disgusting.

Sure i'll write you a check... haha with trying to pay the wedding off up front i'm lucky if I have $45 bucks!

try not to worry about it. they're not getting that money! my dad is a lawyer so i tend to calm people down when they get sued. everything will be okay
