Re: NWR: is it disrespectful?
You don't have to stay up there for a long time. You're just going to pay your respects. Just go up, look then talk to the GM and his families.

I always go up, whether I knew the person well or not. I personally think it's a nice way to grant peace on the person's body and soul. I wouldn't go if I didn't feel that way though. Ask FH....see what he says.

I've skipped it. But I do make sure I go up to the family to pay my respects.

Re: NWR: is it disrespectful?
I don't think it is , I know a lot of people who don't go up!
You are going to pay your respects to the family, no one will even notice if you don't go up, most will be grieving or talking to others

I don't think so. I never do because I'm jewish and in our religion we don't have an open coffin or kneel in front of the coffin

when its my own family i feel like going to the coffin and saying what i need to say is my closure.. when i dont know them i feel its awkward and their sitting there thinking 'who the heck is this telling me things' does that make sense?

it does.
You don't have to if you don't feel comfortable. You're there to pay your respect to the GM and his family, especially if you didn't even know his grandfather!

Re: NWR: is it disrespectful?
I have terrible anxiety when it comes to things like that. I dont like it. If you feel like you cant do it then explain to your FH. IM sure he will understand. It will look much better than closing your eyes!

I don't think it's disrespectful at all. I know a lot of people who are like this. Often times I will just go up and stand there for a few seconds and say a quick prayer.

I'm sorry for the sad news. I, too, can't bare to go to a coffin but I'll go really fast, pay my respect, say a prayer and give my condolences to the family and I'm gone.

I think as long as you go up to the family you will not be disrespectful. I know exactly how you feel.

Re: NWR: is it disrespectful?
i dont think it is disrespectful at all especially because people of other faiths do not go up to the coffin and not to be disrespectful
if that makes any sense

Same here for the same reason- but I feel that if you don't I'm sure they would understand -but just pay your respects to the family.

Re: NWR: is it disrespectful?
I've gone to a wake for the past two nights and I did not go up to the coffin. It was family but I can't go up there.
It isn't disrespectful as long as you pay your respects to the family.
