NWR: Jamaica or Mexico?

I posted this on the NW boards-- but you girls are prob all in HM planning mode so maybe you can help:

DH and I are planning a vacation--

we love riviera maya-- we were at a beautiful resort there for the second week of our HM and had an amazing time.

We went back in June to a different resort and again loved it--

We're trying to squeeze one more trip in this year and can't decide if we should go to RM again or if we should try somewhere new.

We're going to be travelling Thanksgiving week so we are limited in our options because airfare that week is insane....

So far we're between Jamaica and Mexico again-

Does anyone have any feedback on Jamaica? We want to do an all inclusive- but don't want to spend like homenymoon money--lol-- this is ging to be our 3rd week vacation in a vear's time so we don't want to break the bank.

Any ideas? How's Jamaica? Help! I'm so indesicive!

I've been to Montego Bay and was honestly not very impressed wtih it in general. That could have just been my experience though and the all-inclusive we stayed out (which happens to escape my memory right now). I have however heard good things about Negril.

I personally love Mexico and have never been disappointed there!

I completely recommend Couples Resorts in Jamaica.

www.couples.com

They have 4 different resorts (2 in Negril, 1 in Ochos Rios, and one in San Souci).

We stayed at Couples Swept Away in Negril and had the BEST vacation.

It's all-inclusive, couples only (no kids), all drinks included, a lot of restaurants to dine at, acitivites, swim up bar, beach is great.

And it was not expensive at all. I think in total, FI and I paid around $2600 and that was for a 6 night, 7 day in late November.

I second Couples Swept Away...whenever anyone asks about this place I always rave about it because it was probably the absolute best vacation I ever had! Beautiful ground, great food and the people that work there are phenominal! The people of Jamaica are what made the difference to us...they will leave you with a smile on your face. We have traveled to Mexico several times, and although we loved it, we felt that Jamaica surpassed it.

I've been to both

Riveria Maya, Mexico
Montego Bay Jamaica

Both are FANTASTIC! If you go to the riveria maya, stay at the Riu Palace. In Jamaica, we stood at the Grand Pallidium. They were both equally good. I have some pics of Jamaica in my album. It was my most recent trip :)

Re: NWR: Jamaica or Mexico?

I think it depends where you stay in Jamaica...I've heard awesome things about it, but we went this past June and its not a place that's high on my 'lets go there again!' list. We went to a year-old resort (grand palladium lady hamilton). The resort is huge and the drinks and dinners were awesome, the buffets for lunch and breakfast were pretty good, not outstanding. For the amount we paid, I was happy. We had an awesome room too, but the resort is kind of in the middle of nowhere. The problem is with the people that work there - some were very nice and others were down right RUDE! Even tho tips are included, they definitely expected more - some of them flat out asked for tips. Besides that, just the way some of the people talked to you was pretty nasty. I think that bc of where the resort is located, many of the people that worked there don't have too much experience with tourists. If you do Jamaica, I would think Negril or Ochos Rios would be the place to go! Enjoy your vaca!!!

Re: NWR: Jamaica or Mexico?

Thank you girls!

my TA is recommending the Riu Ocho Rios-- it looks beautiful but then I notice that to eat at any of the specialty restaurants you have to make reservations each morning at 7am!! NOT what I want to be doing on vacation!!

I hear so many mixed reviews about Jamaica-- but feel like generally ppl are pleased with Mexico.

I guess i just wanted to try somewhere different-- mexico 3 in a row seems like a lot!

But they always say that if it ain't broke don't fix it, right?
