NWR: jealous of my friend!

ok, so my friend since 3rd grade is making me so jealous! she just got married in august to a guy whos a nurse anesthetist and makes $$$. my friend has 3 degrees, all in education, but doesn't work. when she finished school she said ' i want marriage and a family more than i want to work' (?!?! like thousand of women dont do both??) so now shes working as a nanny to 4 kids- 2 of which are in school all day. so at least she can take the younger 2 back to her house during the day to get laundry done, or run errands during the day if she has to....
i'm just so jealous that she can work the job she really wants without having to worry about how much it pays or how they'll afford things....
SORRY! just needed to vent- i'm in a grumpy mood today and i just takled to her last night so this is all fresh in my head...

Jealousy is normal-but try not to let it overwhelm you. You never know 'how good' someone has it until you are in their shoes. Sometimes people put up a facade that everything is perfect, but it isn't really. Everyone has issues. Not that you wish ill on them.

I just heard something that really hit home with me, and I have to keep reminding myself of it:

'Someone else's success is their success and not my failure.'

Please don't be jealous..
If I'm understanding the situation correctly..she's highly educated and feels satisfied in being a nanny??? Don't you see that there is something wrong with this picture? I AM NOT KNOCKING NANNIES I think this is a great job for a young women, certain age bracket and a sorta 'tie me over job' 'til I figure out what I want in life.

Truthfully, I ADMIRE women that can do it all, like my mom did...career & family.

I ENVY women who either by choice or by excess funds..can be home with their children.

You are your own person,I'm sure you have wonderful attributes we can all admire & envy

BTW, I'm a mom to one son,age 8 ...no way in Hell I'd watch someone else's 4 kids!! No patience!

EXACTLY!!! i guess thats what kind of annoys me so much... just her whole attitude about things like ' oh well, my parents paid for 5 years of school for me, and now i'm not gonna do anything with it'...
and i guess its just my own frustration, too- i don't really like my job, but i feel like i can't quit because of how expensive things are in this area ( she lives in PA, so its much cheaper)
and i know its a JOB taking care of kids all day- i work at a school, so i know what it takes to put up with kids... and i know she probably doesn't get as much done as i think she does during the day, but its just having that option and being able to set your own schedule a little bit that would be nice....

I'll tell you what my dad always tells me...
There are always people who will have more than you and there are always people who will have less than you- be happy for what you have.

I heard something on Dr Phil one day that always stuck me as so true

you can compare your real life with someone elses facade ( what you see - isn't always what it really is)

She lives in PA- so right there you can't compare to all NY has to offer

and would you really want to take care of someones elses kids all day- it doesn't sound so fab to me

if she was living in LA- going to lunch at the Ivy and shopping all day- then you might have something to be jealous about- she might even be jealous of you! maybe that's all there is for her to do there and she is trying to make it seem better then it is- you never know!

It does not matter whether or not she is living in LA and going to lunch at the Ivy. The fact remains that this friend is very fortunate so all she got to do is be happy for her.

first of all- that was not meant litteraly- second of all- it's easier said then done

some times you have to drop the PC to make people feel better and see the situation for what it is

Beth I do understant you point. All I am saying that there will be people who are more fortunate than us but instead of envying them just be happy for them. I do have friends that are much way than I am but I do not need to worry myself over what they have. I just live my life and be happy for others.
