I'm torn about what I should do so i figured why not get opinions. I have been at my current position for almost 3 years. right during xmas (and 2 weeks before I gave birth to my 2nd daughter) my boss cut everyones hours due to the slow business. But to supplement our lost income we were able to go on shared work unemployment and at least get paid a % for the days we were missing. I am the only person in the office so I run everything and there is no one else there to take over for me. Now in a few weeks unemployment runs out (doesn't work with regular unemployment with the extensions) so basically I will be in HUGE financial trouble. I decided to just throw my resume out there and I went on my first interview and got the call tonight that they are offering me the job. The salary will be the same as what I was making where I am now when I was full time. I'm just torn as to if I should just ditch my job now for a new one? I am very close with the owner and I feel VERYYYYYYYYYY bad just leaving. I mean of course I will give notice and help hire whoever and I will always help when he needs... IDK!! I'm so torn.. what would you do?!?!?
UPDATE: My current boss counter offered with: 1- giving me my FT hours back 2 - in one month meeting what job offer was going to pay me (not much but anything helps!) 3 - changing my hours to 7:30 - 3:30 so I am out an hour earlier so I have more time with the kids and one less hour of babysitting (FH goes into work later so the mornings he takes kids to babysitter)
YEYYYY What a relief!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would take it. You need to do whats best for you and your family.

Re: NWR: Job confusion (little long)
if you are close with your boss - talk to him/her and see if they can improve the money situation.
in the end you need to do what's best for you and your family - if you leave in a professional manner your boss will not hold it against you. they had to cut back your hours regardless of how 'close' you are for economic reasons - if you left your rationale is the same. they will have to understand and you will have given them the opportunity to keep you. in this economy you gotta' do what you gotta' do.
congrats on the offer!

Take it. I understand your loyalty but this is about survival. If your boss had to cut your position to save his arse, I'm sure he'd do it in the end. It won't be easy for him either but you and your family comes first.
No one can fault you for getting a better paying job!

I'd take the new offer. I know right now its not so bad where you are bc you can spend time w your kids and still collect. Once it runs out, its going to be rough.
Don't pass on the offer bc you feel obligated to your boss. I guarantee theyre expecting you to be looking anyway in this economy.
Just be professional and compassionate when you resign.

take the new job! you have to do whats best for your family and if your current job can't support your family you need to do whats best for you and not worry about anyone else. let your boss know whats going on though so you give them time to hire people...you dont want to burn your bridges. Congrats on finding a new job!!!! this economy is so rough people can't find anything!

I'm sure ur current boss will def understand the reasons why u need to take another job, just as much as u r untanding his side! Def take it! in this time, we can risk being unemployed specially with unemployment rates still increasing

I know how you feel about going back to work. i worked for scope since my 2nd son was born up until last year and those hours were 2-6 and I had my summers off. This year I work as an infant teacher and I work 7:30-3:30 and I miss my kids like crazzzy. I hate being away from them it sucks. I am also going to school in aug so I will be wayyy too busy then I'd like to be. I am cutting my work hours but I still hate being away from them.

that does stink. I hate thinking that I spend more time at work then with them!! Then its like after work I don't want to waste the little time with them on ANYTHING (like gym which i need to do or shopping etc) I mean I know financially I have to but ugh!!!! It makes me soooo sad bc you never get these cute little years back!! All I hope is that my youngest (7 mo) doesn't have any of her 1st with the babysitter!! or if she does the babysitter better not tell me lol plus FH also knows this is the best thing for us but doesn't love the idea of them not being with one of us mainly, which I get, but its making it harder. Blah!!! I guess I have to suck it up bc tomorrow is the start of back to full time work

Re: NWR: Job confusion (little long)
I worked full time after both my girls were born.
Believe me you will see their firsts (it will always be their 1st when you see it 1st)
It does suck but if it helps you financially, especially in this ecomony go for the better paying job.
Maybe talk to to your boss and let him know that this other place offered you the same $$ you were making full time that is why you have to go..you never know he may make a counter offer to keep you
GL with whatever decision you make
