So coming from the Midwest I had to deal with blizzards not hurricanes, fh is a firefighter so he is already scheduled to be at the fire house all weekend. I am not prepared, and having a slight panic attack. I have a dog and two cats and since fh will be gone I can't just up and leave..... that is my vent for the morning

The last real hurricane to effect Long Island was hurricane Gloria in the 80s. I only remember because we had to evacuate. Hurricanes don't usually hit too hard up here. I bet we get some flooding and we may lose power, but its not going to be devastating like it would be if we were further south.

I agree, I don't think it will come to an evacuation of LI, just some flooding and power outages. It might take a while for LIRR to be back up and running on Monday. DARN! No work! hehe
Do you have a friend or family member that would otherwise be alone that you could invite over to hang out with?

be prepared. Get some jugs of water and flashlights w fresh batteries. I was without power after the Nor'easter March 2010 for about 60 hours... it was AWFUL!!!!
Have cash on hand, and enough pet food/people food that you dont have to leave your house for a few days, if flooding is really as bad as they are saying it will be.
This is no joke. I remember Gloria, and that was a Cat 1 storm. It was bad.
