NWR: Laser Eye Surgery

Original post by GiannisWifey

For those who have had it done or know someone, please tell me the experience and the results.

I am considering this more and more and want to hear all the good and bad about it. I know some people who still wind up needing glasses a few years after they had it, which kind of defeats the whole purpose, although the glasses weren't as strong as they used to be.

Thanks!

i'm actually getting the PRK surgery next wednesday!

now this is the surgery that is painful... I don't know if anyone let you know that. My mom and a friend of mine had PRK and they were in pain for about a week during recovery... sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I just wanted to let you know

haha, yea, i was warned already. i was not a candidate for lasik since i have thin corneas or something . i know PRK requires more of a recovery time but i was also told that it can be better for you in the long run. hopefully it is not that horrible

I had the PRK! It felt like my eye lids were made of sandpaper for about 4 or 5 days...but it was well worth it!

Re: NWR: Laser Eye Surgery

My mom and I got LASIK 10 years ago. I now wear contacts and glasses but the prescription is not as strong as it used to be. I attribute it mostly to the fact that I couldn't see too clearly to drive at night (which is why I ended up getting glasses) and then my job requires me to sit in front of a computer all day. My vision after LASIK was 20/20, and now its about 20/40. I can technically walk around without contacts/glasses but driving would not be recommended. I do have a slight form of astigmatism.

Overall, I highly recommend the procedure. It was the greatest feeling to go to a pool or beach and not deal with removing contacts/glasses. I am strongly reconsidering getting another adjustment but for the fact that I love wearing colored contacts right now and would be less likely to wear them if I get 20/20 vision back.

My co-worker had prk years ago. Now her vision isn't 100% and she can't see clearly so she's going back this Thursday for a second surgery which she has to pay for again.

i'm not to worried about that. the doctor i am using does free adjustments if my prescription were to ever worsen. that stinks that she has to pay for it again!

CRASHING -

I had it done....i guess maybe 8 years ago now and like I always tell everyone...its the BEST money i've ever spent...even after the wedding I think i'll still say that...ssshh dont tell FH hahahaha. But really it was the best thing i ever did. I had an astigmatism in both of my eyes so my contacts were SUPER expensive so i figured out that it essentially paid for itself within a year. It corrected my astigmatism and my horrendous sight!!! BEST EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

I had an amazing experience; had it done in Jan 07 by Dr Jodi Abramson at TLC eye centers in White Plains; she's in NYC too.
I joke that I have bionic eyes now, perfect vision after years of super large prescriptions. I also had astigmatism.

Good luck!

My dad had it.. he said it was the best thing he's ever done.

7 years later he needs reading glasses from the drug store, nothing fancy.

Just bumping to say that I had it done a little over a yr ago and it was the best money ive ever spent!!!! Dr Donnenfeld at TLC in garden city is amazing... And so is all the staff there! They made me feel sooo comfortable... My vision is awesome and i only regret that i didnt do it sooner! I had no idea what I was missing

ETA: The worst part for me was right after the surgery when the numbing drops wore off and my eyes were stingingggg... Thats why they tell you to sleep it off... lucky me couldnt go to sleep so i suffered through like 4 hrs of complete burning...

Re: NWR: Laser Eye Surgery

My fh is an optometrist-
We see TONS of patients who had this done and STILL have to wear glasses. (It doesn't last forever for everyone.)
We also see TONS of patients who had it done poorly and have scars on their eyes.

That doesn't mean it's not right for you.
If you have a GREAT dr. It can be amazing-
the first step is to find out if you are a good candidate for the surgery!!!
Good Luck!
