Re: NWR: LAST and CST
I didn't study for either when I had to take them and I was fine. I didn't want to stress and it was okay.

I didn't really study, but what I did was look at their example essay.
For the LAST follow the exact format that they show you in the example. It helps your score
I just took the CST. I don't know if I passed or not, but the essay was exactly the same as the example. I studied literacy terms and it helped!
The test is long and in many areas so you really can't study. Are you taking them both in the same day? If you are, that's a lot!
Here is a website I used to help me study literacy terms.
Good luck!

I bought books for both, but honestly, you can't really study for them. The information from test to test changes (of course) and it's so all over the place. I just did a few practice tests to get used the type of questioning they would be using.
Good luck!!

Good Luck!!!

Re: NWR: LAST and CST
I would just suggest looking at the online samples for both tests. I recently took the multi-subject and literacy CST's and the essays were virtually identical to the sample.. I second following the format for the model answer. Other than that, it is more of an endurance test than anything!!

Look at the tests online so you know what to expect. I thought all of the tests were a joke, much easier than the ones I had to take in MA, but everyone is different.

Re: NWR: LAST and CST
The best studying for these tests is really from practice exams. They sell the booklets at book stores. If you have the opportunity to visit a school and speak w/ teachers, that too is the best information you can get especially for ATSW and CST. Those are really educational theories and practices. The CST involves knowledge from your content area....There's really no way to practice except to learn the exam format and devise strategies that will help you pass. Good luck!
I just took the multi subject CST.....people say it isn't that bad...but I think its kind of a beoch..Its literally every subject you have ever learned about...Download the study guide from the website. I also bought a study guide from Barnes and Noble which I thought was really helpful.
The essay is usually an analysis of a running record.
Didn;t mean to scare you but just be prepared.

unfortunately i have to take both in one day because i'm living in tx until may and only have the one day to fly up and take it. i would just take one one the june 9th date, but i need that date in case something goes wrong with one test (but of course nothing will go wrong... ::crosses fingers::) b/c i only have until july to pass.
i figured it'd be pretty 'unstudyable,' but i figured i'd ask in case there were certain parts that were a pain in the a$$. i also did my undergrad at an art school so i didn't have to take certain subjects (real math or science) though i am taking a math class now and did well in science in hs (though i may have forgotten things).
i guess i'll just go look at some practice exams. =0) thanks for the help girls and here's to hoping i'm not TOO burned out after taking both in one day. =0P
