NWR: Late Express Card Payment

Okay Ladies..I have a problem and maybe you can help me figure it out. I just realized when I received my Express Card bill that I forgot to pay for last month's bill. Recently, FH and I have been looking at houses. He's all upset because he kept on telling me that this will drop my credit report tremendously eventhough this card is not a real CREDIT CARD. I've never had any late payments and when I checked my credit report last year around october, I had Excellent credit. Should I freak out? Will this outstanding bill drop my credit? But of course, I'm going to pay it off ASAP!!!!! I'm a nervous wreck right now

dont freak out! i promise....you need to call them and explain that you have never paid a bill late and usually they will drop the late chrage, and they usually dont report it for unless its over 60 days late.
hope this makes you feel better:)

well a late payment can cause problems on your credit report however if you can, I would pay the bill then check your credit report in a month. If it says the bill is late then contact Express and see what they can do about not showing that but don't tell them you're trying to buy a house. I have made a late payment once I think (made it ontime but the bank took a few days to send it). It never showed up on my credit report as late. It still says always paid on time so maybe they won't report it as late. Also your credit score may drop a bit but I doubt you'd go from execellent down to poor. Maybe it will go down to high good.

It probably won't affect anything. Send your payment and stop freaking!!

Don't stress out, its really not a big deal. It really depends on how long you wait till you make this payment.

There's a big difference b/n waiting for 60 days and 90 days. In this case, its only been 30 days, so i'd suggest calling them up and clearing this up for your own record.

If they say No, all you have to say is 'in that case, i'd like to cancel this CC', and TRUST ME, they'd rather give you back that late fee than lose a customer.

Feel better!

LOL this comment is so funny and true. I generally don't like having balances but I had a 0% intro rate and when it was almost up, paid off this like 1K bill. All of a sudden the company wrote me saying I paid off the bill and they weren't sure if I was going to close the account so in hopes of keeping me as a customer they more than doubled my limit. I thought it was so funny.

You'll be fine,FI slips all the time, and his credit is not affected.

Ok- I checked this out with my mortgage broker because I was in a similar situation. ONE late payment will not really do anything to your credit...especially because its not really considered a credit card. They consider it a secondary credit card. Call the credit card company and tell them what happened and they will usually rectify the problem for you so it doesn’t show up on your credit report. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. You should be fine!

ETA: The late payment wont show up on your report unless its been more than 30 days. Prior to 30 days, you are not effected, even if you are past the due date
