So I registered for another graduate course for this month, and i just read all the assignments and one is to attend an AA meeting and then do a paper on what you got out of the meeting, etc.
I'm a little uncomfortable with having to attend this type of meeting(no I'm not an alcoholic, and don't drink very often), but just feel weird to have to attend one of these meetings. I don't even know where to find an AA meeting
ETA:I didnt even need this course, I already finished my elective requirements, and only have 6 courses left to take and then I'm done with my masters degree. but theres an option to do an additional 12 credits and theres benefits to doing this so I thought why not go for it, plus its supposed to be a great course.

Re: little uncomfortable
there are open AA meetings and if you sit in the back and call ahead to let them know you are observing for class, more than likely they won't bother you. It must be an open meeting meaning the public is allowed to sit in on it

yeah thats what the assignment said, that it would have to be an open meeting. I don't know why I feel weirded out by this.

I understand friends of mine had to do it. ITs not that bad. It would probably be interesting. IT may be akward at fist but once you in there it should get better.

I'm studing rehabilitation counseling. In the future (hopefully) I will be working with individuals who have been out of work due to mental, personality or physical disabilities and seek counseling before, during and after the recovery process for the physical disabilities for when its time to go back into the workfield, they might have to change occupations depending on the disability.

Its an interesting field. I am a mental health counselor and we try to prepare the members for work and socialization back into society

Re: NWR: little uncomfortable
It's not bad-I had to attend one for nursing school-I didn't say anything-it wasn't my place-just observed.-I felt like I was intruding on these people's lives though-it was uncomfortable. Maybe talk to the teacher, now and ask if there are alternative meetings.

Thanks. I agree thats why I feel uncomfortable I feel like its their support group and gives them comfort talking to others in same situation and then there I'll be intruding and taking notes. There are a couple of other meeting options, but they are all related to substance abuse.
