I went to the gyno this morning and expressed that I wanted to go back on BC (after having a horrible experience on ortho tri cyclen 5 years ago). She said loestrin is probably my best bet. She gave me 3 mos. worth and then gave me a prescription and said 'here is the prescription, it has 6 refills...use it unless its too expensive, then keep coming back for samples.'
I'm just wondering - how expensive is it? I have GREAT health insurance through FH (Oxford) and I didn't even have a copay for today, so I'm just wondering how bad it could be. When I was on the pill before, I was in college at NYU and since I was under 21, NYU covered it 100% so it was free for me, so I have no concept of how much it could cost.
TIA!

I think I was paying $30 under insurance? I got so many samples I haven't had to actually fill a prescription for a while but I believe it was around $30.

That's definitely not bad, although you can get your asse that I'll be hitting her up for the samples anyway, lol.

I'm on loestrin and I think its wonderful..I had mentioned the other day I have PCOS and this is the only pill that has worked with me on trying to regulate my period and help with the whole horomones thing...and its about $50/month. And its not like they have a generic brand or anything (figures) so its pretty expensive

don't be scared, I hate BC with a passion but have to be on it for medical reasons and this is the first one I actually don't mind. I was on yasmin before loestrin and absolutely hated it

Same with me too..i didnt want to be on it, but since I have medical issues it was almost recommended I be on BC. Yasmin gave me so many problems, just made me feel worse..loestrin works wonders for me though

Re: NWR: LOESTRIN
ok - so I did Loestrin, and Ortho and all of those - and had horrible experiences on all of them
I really cant do the 'tri phases' as they call them. I was crying all the time, my skin got bad and i was just a complete emotional meess
So my doctor recommended Nuva Ring...and I LOVE IT!!!!
I have converted ALL of my friends and we are all spokeswomen for it - it honestly is the best.
I have zero complaints. Ask your doctor if it is an option. And with my insurance I only pay 15 dollars a month!

I work in benefits - the cost of your medicine 100% depends on the insurance plan your company offers - having oxford vs. aetna vs. bluecrossblueshield basically makes no difference.
Most companies design their own plan and decide how much to charge you depending on what tier the medicine is on. The drug companies determine which medicine is on which tier. Since this is a name brand pill, you will probably pay the copay for the highest tier. Look at your plan information or ask your employer for the Summary Plan Document (SPD) and it will tell you. Can also call the insurance company and they can tell you.
HTH.

Re: NWR: LOESTRIN
I take Loestrin FE 1.5/30. I pay out of pocket, it costs me $30 a month at the particular pharmacy that I go to. For some reason at Eckerd it cost me $47 for the same exact prescription!

Re: NWR: LOESTRIN
FYI, often if you go to a 'mom and pop' type of pharmacy they charge you cost if you dont have or can't go through insurance. Chains like CVS just can't do that sort of thing.
