NWR- Losing a pet

NWR- Losing a pet

It really stinks. My family's cat of 15 years had to be put to sleep on March 10. She was looking sick for the last week. My parents took her to the vet and they found out she had a tumor. I was so sad during the 1st week.. I even started crying at the store that my mom bought her dress at.. we went there the very next day and I guess I thought I was strong enough but started to break down in front of the sales people..they were nice but i felt so bad about it. Now I was feeling better but I'm so fed up with several people (I'd rather not vent about that at work)...and I'm feeling worse about my cat..I guess people's stupidity makes me realize just how extra special pets are to us.

i understand.. i think ppl who does not have any pets do not understand how attached you can get to a pet..

awww hang in there hun!! just know that atleast the cat isn't suffering anymore!!

my sister and I were hysterical over a PARAKEET (kiwi) that we had for like 5 years and we had to put him to sleep because he had a tumor on his beak.......it was the worst day ever! I know it sounds silly, but you really get attached to them....even a little bird!

thanks.. by people's stupidity I don't even mean lack of care for my situation.. I'm fed up about something totally unrelated.. but thanks anyway.

I am sorry to hear about your cat. It is so hard losing a pet, especially one that has been in your family for so long. My pets are my family I can completely understand why you're so upset. When my family dog had to get put down at the age of 16 it was really hard for everyone. Just remind yourself that if she was sick, it's better that she doesn't suffer.

ugh.. I remember when I was little (about 10) sitting in my dog's bed holding my dog cuz I didn't want my dad to take him to be put to sleep.

I'm going to be a mess when my current doggie's time comes. ugh.. I can't even think about it.

FHs childhood cat lived with us for 2 years, then she got very sick. We had to put her down in August of 2009 & it completely stunk. It was such a tramatic experience for me because all my life my only pets where fish.
Its been 7 months & its still hard. I used to tell the cat everything that was on my mind. She never judged me or yelled at me. When I was mad at FH over whatever stupid thing, I would tell her that she is so lucky that she doesn't have a boyfriend.
It was very hard on FH because he lost his dad in January of 2007 & then his cat in August of 2009.

Hang in their because it does get easier.

Thanks girls for your warm wishes. And Christine, your post even made me laugh a little because when I would fight with FH, I would tell Phoebe that we should all be cats or that I should have opted to be a cat lady and buy a big house and have a whole bunch of cats. The poor thing was probably so tired of my drama.

I've been there so I know exactly what you are going through. We had to put our beloved Snow Pricne to sleep two years ago. it's so hard and believe it or not even though I know he is at complete rest I still wish he was here & there is not a day that goes by that I do not miss him. hang in there!

Awww..hang in there. Pets are part of the family. I lost my dog in a traggic accident last year and still haven't gotten over it. I was out almost a week from work. A lot of non-animal lovers don't get it, but I say anyone with a heart would grieve when a pet dies.

I'm so sorry about your loss.

I have always treated the death of a pet just the same as losing a family member. Because really, that's what happened. The fact that it's an animal that was lost does not mean that the amount of grieving is any less.

Time will help. It sounds cliche, but it will.

Loosing a pet is soo difficult.... they love unconditionally and it is something we take for granted when they are with us.

hang in there... it will get better with time
