NWR: Medical Field brides... I got a question

Original post by VCanizalez

Chicas...

I have a quick question...
When I was 16yrs old I had TWO car accident that damaged my knee.... I went to Chiro n therapy for 1year...
But ONE knee.. gave me problems when i was 17yrs old, so I went to Doc and I was diagnose with Meniscus Tear....
Now I have NOT seen the Doc sinve I was 18...

I always have PAIN in my Left knee....
It hurts alot... on scale from 1-10 i would say around 6.5(as of Right now).... sometimes it goes even up to 10 bc I cant even WALK, i have to b limping....

It hurts even more in the COLD, WINTER, When its going to RAIN, or AC....

Am i being STUPID bc i have not go to see a Doctor?
Should I see a doctor ASAP?

Do Meniscus Tear increases? like does the cartilage gets worse n worse as time past by without treatment?

Please Help a bride in PAIN..

Thanks

XOXOXO

Like if your knee feels like it's stuck or it's difficult to move or bend it whther it hurts or not.

hey V...I agree with SandyBeaches

you should def get it checked out, meniscus tears can worsen over time.

I also do not think you should go to a chiropractor...if you do not need a referral from your insurance, you can go straight to an orthopedist. I know a good one who specializes in knees.

if you just call the orthopedic office, they will be able to tell you over the phone if you need a referral or not.

and im not sure if you said you had an MRI or not...if you haven't you need one...even if you have they may want another one to check on the status of the tear- to see if its worse or not

take motrin or aleve for pain and see if that helps

FM if you want more advice/help

Sorry to crash but:

DH has had tears in both his knees and I know the pain you are going through. Definately go see an orthopedic dr and if he thinks you need surgery , DO IT! DH has had the surgery in both knees and he is relatively pain free. Its an outpatient proceedure - he was at the hospital at 6 am and was out by 12. The scaring is just a little tiny mark you barely can see. He had a 2 week recovery and was back to work on light duty right after. If you have a job that you mostly sit you can be back in a week. If you want a referral for an orthopedic surgeon FM me I can give you his name.

Veronica,

I had torn meniscus and a torn ACL that I walked around on for years before I finally decided it was surgery time =( It never hurt on its own, I just had a very unstable knee because of the torn ACL. It was exruciating pain when my knee would move out of place.

The surgeon I saw told me the torn meniscus alone would get worse over time and probably cause arthritis. I saw a highly reccomended surgeon in Lake Success and he was the best!

Let me know if you want any info!

OK, so I'm not a Dr either, but FH has had surgeries on his knees twice already (stupid dirtbike!). Anyhow, the first time he tore his MCL, ACL and meniscus at the same time and clearly needed surgery. THe 2nd time he only tore his meniscus a little bit, but when he walked around on it a bunch, something happened where the bit of meniscus that was hanging off got stuck in the joint and his knee was locked in that position and it was really painful. So you should definitely see a doctor if you are in pain so that doesn't happen!!!

Vero call your ins co and ask if you can go to any specialist directly. If you can, then find an orthapedist on that list and go. They specialize in joints etc.

Youre going to have to go or its just going to get worse.
