NWR: MEGA VENT.. Why are people so d@mn selfish?????

Since I have always been a decent writer, my mom entrusted me with the honor of writing my stepfathers eulogy. I have been racking my brain trying to come up with something that will truly describe who he was and what he meant to us all. I feel like I am finally making some serious progress when I get a bombshell thrown on me. My mom just called and my stepdads family wants to 'proofread and perhaps edit my eulogy to make sure it is good enough to be said'. Are you effin kidding me???????? ASIDE from the fact that he was never all that close with his sisters (and they have done a lot of messed up things that I wont even go into), his own PARENTS aren't even GOING TO THE FUNERAL (which is a whole nother matter that has disgusted me the past two days)!!!! My stepdad has raised me since I was 8 years old and he was just as much a father to me as he was to my brother, which is his birth son. My brother is only 9 years old and obviously cannot write a eulogy so I am writing it on behalf of us both... I have loved my stepdad dearly and we have been close for a long time and to think that someone would want to 'proofread and edit' thoughts that are coming straight from my heart is very upsetting to me. Luckily my mom told them flat out that whatever I decide to write will be said as it is not up to anyone else to edit my words but this whole thing just really shocked and upset me! (Oh and my mom even gave his sisters the option of saying their own eulogy at the wake but apparently they want to do the wake and edit my eulogy at the funeral!!!)


I know it might sound like a stupid thing to get upset about in light of all that is going on but as I told my mom... I am finding it way easier to focus on how angry I am at his family than to think about how sad I am that my stepfather is gone...

I am sooo sorry that you are going through this right now. Losing someone is never easy but to have to deal with drama on top of that is so unfair! I'm so sorry for your loss and the unfair behavior of your relatives.

Weddings and Funerals seem to bring out the worst in some people. Don't let these people get to you. People who want to edit usually have some sort of interest in protecting themselves and It is not about them. The important part is that you say exactly what you feel and give your step-dad the tribute he deserves. It speaks to what kind of person he was that you love him as your father. I am so sorry you are going through this right now. I cant imagine how difficult this time is for your family. God Bless.

I am so sorry for your loss. Dealing with a death so close to home is terribly hard. My heart goes out to you and your family. I recently lost someone close and a lot of drama ensued there after with family as well. Just follow your heart and do what you feel is right.

I cant imagine how this all must feel and I am sorry that you are having to go thru this on top of losing your step-dad

First off I am sorry for your loss! Secondly, they want to PROOFREAD his stepdaughters eulogy???? this can't be for real... since you said he wasn't very close to them, it sounds like maybe its just to make sure they are mentioned in there?? that is a little selfish to me... they should be honored and happy that his stepchild loved him enough to want to write something from her heart!!
