NWR: Migraines /botox

Does anyone have chronic migraines and has tried botox for them? Does it help? Would you recommend it?

I have tried daily medicine for 2 yrs (did nothing), acupuncture (worked for a little while), supplements, steroids, etc. Some months are horrible others are manageable lately they are horrendous. So I figured I could try this and see how it goes

Thanks. You can message me if you don't want to share.

I've looked into this. To me, it's still just too new. My migraines have been more manageable being on Nortriptoline (spelling?) but it's not a 100% fix. Definitely do all the research and ask more than one neurologist.

NWR: Migraines /botox - Long Island Weddings

I have suffered from migraines for 15 years since I was about 10. A friend I met in grad class suffers daily in varying forms. She tried 3 rounds of botox and said it did nothing and actually caused side effects of extreme dizziness. I wouldn't recommend it. I get about 4 a week to the point I black out lose my hearing and vision and my face goes numb. Believe it or not I work with a family and the person's mother suffers daily. She found that sticking an ice pack on the pack of her neck while feet in extremely hot water as hot as you can tolerate provides relief I'm sure probably along with medication. I tried it and it does work because it draws the blood away from the migraine. It doesn't provide total relief but some. I try anything. I have kidney disease so all I can take is Tylenol which all migraine suffers know doesn't work. I would keep searching but not opt for botox!

NWR: Migraines /botox - Long Island Weddings

I've had migraines for about three years now and have had Botox injections for two of those years. It has been a Godsend. I still have migraines, very hormone and cycle related, but they have decreased from 4-5 days a week to 1-2 days a month. Mine are no aura, but start in the early AM and result in several hours of agony and vomiting. They continue to improve, but has been total hell at times. I also take Buspar and HRT, but I believe the Botox has made an enormous difference. I have not had any side effects from the Botox at all.

NWR: Migraines /botox - Long Island Weddings

I've had migraines forever. Recently up to 3x per week. I'm currently on Cambia (powder) and Sumavel (needless injection). i take them during the 15 minute onset depending on what type of migraine it is ( I get 'regular' and vascular ones) Both have been really helpful. the daily stuff didnt work in the past. Ive never done the botox, but a friend of mine had good success on it. Migraines are the worst! good luck!

Thanks i will try this! I actually ordered a heated/cold head wrap last night because the shower heat does help me but then the pain comes back.

Where did you go? If you don't mind sharing. Mine are the same. I can go days with them and then randomly have some peace for a few days. Frova is the only thing that works all day but I only get 9 a month so I have to use them wisely =/

NWR: Migraines /botox - Long Island Weddings

I started getting migraines when I was about 12. Mine are 75% hormone related and the rest are random, and about 95% of the time they develop in my sleep and I wake up with them. I only get about 1-2 per month. I take Maxalt when I feel one coming on, but I spend the day vommiting and just sleeping in a dark room, so I usually have to wait until at least 8 hours until I can eat an apple or something and take the medication so that it will stay down. I used to take the nose spray but it didnt work for me. I looked into Botox but havent gone through with it.

ETA: One of my fears is waking up with a migraine on my wedding day.

I go to Dr Audrey Halpern in the city. I love her. She's a neurologist and an expert in migraines.

NWR: Migraines /botox - Long Island Weddings

I suffer from severe migraines and I've had them ever since I was little. I went to a neurologist who honestly did nothing for me. My Dr. gave me a prescription but I can't remember the name of it right now and I don't know where the bottle is however, it's really strong and I don't take it very often because I can't drive or function properly when I take it.

I find that the best cure for me is (this is going to sound disgusting) but if I chew two Excederin migraine and swallow it with something caffeinated the migraine usually subsides within about 15-20 minutes depending on the severity of it.

=( ughhh story of my life. Mine get worse before & after my pd.

Ask your neuro for Frova. You can take it whenever and it always works (im my case its the only thing that works). I took it the day of the wedding and had no problems!!
