NWR: MOH needs apartment help!! pleaseeee read!

she has a 18 month old and her and her husband are being kicked out of her apartment because the landlord is selling his other house and needs to move his daughter in. They have been the worst landlords ever and now this!!! she doesn`t have the money for a depost anywhere or security being that she didn`t get any notice as to when she`d have to leave (they want her out NOW!!!) so if anyone knows of anything pleaseeeeeee let me know!! She can afford between 800-900 a month

Aww I'll keep an eye out for anything!! Is that the most she can afford? I'm just worried because for 3 people, that might be a little hard for her to find.......I'll keep looking!

Try craigslist!!

I thought they MUST give her 30 days notice!! There is no way she can just be thrown out!!

yeahhh i know it`s going to be soo hard! it`s hard to find a place for 1 person for that amount! but they are in a tough spot right now....not really my place to post her life story ya know...but it can be a temporary location if need be. yeahh i thought they needed to give 30 days notice too! it`s not a legal apartment so i guess the rules don`t apply!

not sure where she is looking but these are in queens- there are more on craigslist

$800 - 1 br

1 br basement $900

$700 1 br in building

more

good luck

out of those id definitely tell her to look at the 1st the 800 1 br in sunnyside. Apartments in sunnyside are usually very spacious, more so than the average apartment. The area is good and EXTREMELY close to the city, the 7 is close by and its about a 10 min train ride to the city. The only problem with sunnyside is the parking is insane, its so hard to find a spot and during alternate side parking days it can take at least an hour to find a spot.

The woodside one, not 100% sure but by the outside of the building it looks like it might be right by woodside projects

if they want her out asap they should soften the blow by doubling her original deposit.

Tell her to report the landlord about the illegal apt.

oh she plans on it!! But does that buy her more time to stay there? As far as i know she can tell him he`d have to legally evict her and that could take months especially since it`s not legal! But she planned on calling the town right after she found something!

I saw this posted on LIF, so I thought I'd pass it on. I have no idea what rent they are asking, the poster didn't say.

Apt for Rent: Great Neck

it is my understanding that tenants have a lot more rights than landlords do ... she should report them, and let them start the eviction process, it will take months!!

and i believe she can even stop paying rent at all because its an illegal apartment, i don't think they're allowed to collect rent?

let them take her to court, the judges usually side in the favor of the tenant anyway ... she can claim she didn't know it was an illegal apartment.

i have tried to tell her this over and over but for some reason she just doesn`t want to do it! i think she`s nutz!!! they told the landlord they would be out at the end of april but if she doesn`t have a place by then i sure hope she reconsiders!! thanks girls for all of your help and concern!!
