Ok, so I just got done reading an article that Kate Hudson was featured in. She said 'I don't believe (monogamy) is realistic. But, I believe that we, as people, have the power to make it happen.' So I'm having a Carrie from SATC moment. Is monogamy possible?

Re: NWR-Monogamy
Ill post a different prospective ...
Of course I think monogoamy is possible which is why I am entering a marriage in 419 days but honestly I do feel that marriage is a strange ritual. Many years it ago it served its purpose - women had to marry or they were shunned from society. Marrying gave men owndership of women and forced many social in equalities ...
Sometimes my FI and I do say 'wouldn't it be cool if we were one of those people that didn't get married but were life partners'. Its just what does the marriage certificate really mean?
Plus, Kate Hudson is extremely close with her parents ... who both share the notion that marriage and a real committed relationship does not have to go hand in hand. So Im sure their views/relationship has rubbed off on her. Kate married young and was impulsive and perhaps she is seeing life in a different light. Also, by her saying that I dont necessarily believe she is condoning cheating or admitting that she has.
My two cents

I think it's a justification for her to be unfaithful.
If you really love the person you married and is completelly satisfied, there is absolutelly no reason to go 'somewhere else'.
Totally agree

Ok, so people are probably going to want to punch me for writing this.
But I noticed that someone wrote 'Kate Hudson lives in a fantasyworld.' Yes, Hollywood is superficial. But I think she raises an interesting question. See, I think we can all agree that we are in the 'YAYYYYYYY! LOVE RULES!' phase of our lives. He11, we're all planning the weddings of our dreams. I think for us, the idea of being unfaithful is foreign. But I think that its a lot more prevalent than any of us would be willing to admit.
Today nearly 50% of people get divorced (from their first marriage). While I KNOW that I will always be with my FH, I also realize that being monogamous in this day and age is much more difficult than it was when our parents and grandparents got married.
Don't get me wrong. I do NOT think its impossible to be monogamous nor do I condone being unfaithful. But I wouldn't just toss Kate Hudson's comment out the window. Another poster mentioned that she has witnessed her Mom and Kurt Russell's partnership for many many years. When that is your sample size, and your mother doesn't see the need to get married, it makes sense to have those thoughts about monogamy.
I hate to be the downer, but I GUARANTEE that some people that are on this site have not been faithful to their FH or their FH has not been faithful to them. I just think we're all kind of caught up in the moment of being happy in love - which rocks! But I think the mass response of 'She's ridiculous!' doesn't exactly correlate to what millions of Americans are going through.....
Sorry if I ruffled anyones feathers. Just trying to be a realist...

I do agree with this ... I want to add ... Many of us are in wonderful relationships right now. The key words are, RIGHT NOW. Relathionship run its course sometimes and as people change the relationship do as well, sometimes not for the better. Which is why marriage may be unrealistic for millions of people and hey, maybe for many of us LIWers. None of us know what will happen in the future. You can only speculate based on your current relationship and current state of mind.

I agree with you both. It's easy to be dismissive about the comment but monogamy, marriage - those require intense work from both people. And you BOTH must WANT it to work.
