We are using Coldwell Banker Mortgage company...Its not a bank but the mortgage division of the real estate agency Coldwell Banker (our real estate agent is from Coldwell Banker.) They gave us such a low rate we would have been fools to go elsewhere.

I think we went to see too many people! About all of the rates are the same, as are the closing costs. We are really confused and we need to decide and have a commitment by the end of this week!

We did the same thing....went to about 10 banks, drove myself nuts, and finally ended up going with Bank of America. We almost went with Chase, but they wanted us to pay almost $8,000 in points to get a lower rate, which is the same rate we got from Bank of America with no points. Good luck and try not to drive yourself crazy!!

Be careful of morgage brokers. They may be able to get the best rate, but you will have to pay points for it. A lot of them have deals with banks to just send the business their way.
We just closed on our house on Friday and went with Wells Fargo. We got a 5.75% rate and did really well on the closing costs. According to the lawyers, Wells Fargo is doing the best right now with the whole housing mess.

I would totally work with Wells Fargo. I work with everyday as a real estate paralegal and I've been most impressed with their loan officers over all the other lenders I work with. I would def stick with a bank rather than a broker.
of course, another good choice is to go with your bank that you currently bank at.

we went through our friend who was a broker. We got a fixed rate of 5.5% (didn't have to buy it down). When I went through the bank I felt like I was getting the worse rate. We did end up with citimortgage.

we are going through a mortgage broker..so they'll do the work for us...and its someone we know very well, which is even better!!! I hope to get a great rate, which shouldn't be a problem..we both have excellent credit..but i can let you know soon who i go with! we are going into contract soon
