So I came home tonight to find a mouse in my apartment. I am so upset!!! I called my landlord and she was really nice but she was like this can happen sometimes when it is really cold out just go buy what you need to get rid of it and I will reimburse you. Yeah it was nearly 10pm and every home depot near me closes at 10. The worst part is FH is away on business. SO it is just me and Mr. Mouse for tonight.

Re: NWR: MOUSE!!
AHHH this happened to me a few weeks ago.... I was sitting on a stool with the phone for 45 minutes till FH came home.. he got those sticky traps and we caught it
critters don't usually bother me but it's different when it's in your house! yuck!
It's the cold!

Re: NWR: MOUSE!!
We had that problem when we had a crack in our front stoop. Those freakin things were getting in through the smallest crack! When it got cold out, they decided to warm up in my house! Come to find out that rodents can bend and flaten their skeletal system to fit into the smallest places.
I believe my mom got our glue traps from the supermarket. If you get really freaked out, just find a 24 hour supermarket.

Aaaww....doesn't sound like you're too freaked. They are nocturnal and don't care for light and noise. Leave on a few lights and a radio and they should leave you alone for the evening.

Re: NWR: MOUSE!!
We have one in our kitchen.
It's been like a week now and every time I need something out of the bottom cabinets I make FH get it for me!
Also I don't want him to tell me anything about the traps, I tried to convince him to get the glue ones and then let it go when it got caught but he thought I was crazy.

awww yyou have a little mickey. I hope I never have a mouse bc I would feel too bad killing it. I would have to save it somehow, yet still get it out of my house.
Be glad it's not a RAT or ROACHES!

those are like superglue..... there is no setting it free once it's caught! and the snap ones don't work they just eat the peanut butter and get away.
it's cruel but unfortunately the glue traps are the only ones that work...

Glue traps are completely inhumane, and most stores don't carry them anymore for that reason. I'm certainly not a fan of rodents, but i'd never want to knowingly rip the skin from a live creature and leave it to wallow and starve to death!
You can simply bait a humane plastic or metal trap, and release it once it's caught! Please don't buy the glue traps.

I spent a long time standing in home depot trying to decide what to do and no matter what method you take they are all pretty cruel. If FH was not allergic to cats I would be getting one TODAY!!

Re: NWR: MOUSE!!
I think there is some non kill trap.. like some sort of box thing??
the glue ones are soooooooo grossssssss. I came into work so many times to find a mouse stuck to the glue trap STILL ALIVE with skin all ripped open and cuts hanging out.... they get stuck and will do anything to get loose. It's sad to see this.
Please don't use the glue ones!
I sorry.. I just feel bad for them. I'm a freak.

OHHH this would be the perfect solution! And probably the only way I can convince FH to get a kitten! I'm going to try that today.

Re: NWR: MOUSE!!
Go to goole and look up humane mouse traps... there's a ton of stuff that came up. It's worth a try. It's only like $11
One morning I came into work and the garbage bag inside my garbage can was moving. I got soo freaked out. When i looked inside I realized it was a mouse who got stuck and couldn't get out of the garbage. My co-worker picked up her umbrella and was going to beat him to death with her umbrella! I flipped out. I wouldn't let her kill him like that.. or even kill him at all. As freaked out as I was.. I grabbed the garbage can, held it as far away from me as possible.... touched as little of the can as I could.. and ran up the stairs with it and out onto the streets.. and put the can down sideways.. he went RUNNING out of that can.. and down the block. I like to think I saved his little mickey life.
Ha ha.. Cacarina he ran towards where you work! Maybe he went to vitist you! Ha ha!

I have 2 cats.... someone told me once that the smell from the litter box (not the poo or urine smell but just in general) actually keeps mice, rodents, and most insects away. I know the cats help out too.

Re: NWR: MOUSE!!
2010 bride here:
my parents have a house upstate ny & they get field mice in it all the time. my dad hates hurting animals so what he does: on top of the counter he puts crumbs leading to the edge then attaches a flexible piece of cardboard off the edge of the counter. he puts a garbag pail (empty) under the flexible piece of cardboard so when the mouse walks out on the ledge to get the crumbs he falls into the pail. then lets it go outside.
