NWR: MOUSE!!

Original post by FutureMrsG

So I came home tonight to find a mouse in my apartment. I am so upset!!! I called my landlord and she was really nice but she was like this can happen sometimes when it is really cold out just go buy what you need to get rid of it and I will reimburse you. Yeah it was nearly 10pm and every home depot near me closes at 10. The worst part is FH is away on business. SO it is just me and Mr. Mouse for tonight.

I got the no-kill traps. My FFIL had a few he got in Chinatown like, 20 years ago, those ones worked the best but I couldn't find them anywhere. There's a door and it swings down after the mouse goes in. We used to catch them and then take the mouse in the trap in a shoebox to a nearby park and leave them there, lol. I could NOT kill them, and once we were on vacation and thought all the mice were gone, well we were gone for a week and when we got back one had basically died inside the no-kill trap, I was so upset I cried for like a half hour and FH looked soooo sad too! I could never kill them. I did move away from the place though, haha. I couldn't deal with it anymore.

They DO have similar no kill traps, we caught a few in there, I got them at Ace Hardware, you can catch a bunch of mice at once in them.

(We lived across the street from a nursing home that was under construction for over a year, all the mice came up to our apt, the problem was NOT going away - so we did)

That's what the ones from google sound like. And they said it can catch up to 30 mice! I was like OMG who has 30 mice? I guess it can happen??

I heard that whenever there is construction nearby or if there is flooding in a field or something they will come. My friend gets them.. but she also has very very dirty people under her.. so I think they are attracted to her neighbors. Ha ha!

One of my students was just telling me that they found a couple of mice this week in their house. . .they live 100 feet from a canal.

I live very close to the water so that could be a factor. It has also been so cold and I know that they are not fond of the cold.

You can trap the mouse by getting a cage that you would put a hamster in and put food in there. Guaranteed it will go there quickly. Then you could bring it in the cage to a no kill shelter. Don't hurt it or put it on a glue trap- that is really inhumane. They don't harm anyone. They are actually kinda cute too.

Glue traps are completely inhumane, and most stores don't carry them anymore for that reason. I'm certainly not a fan of rodents, but i'd never want to knowingly rip the skin from a live creature and leave it to wallow and starve to death!

You can simply bait a humane plastic or metal trap, and release it once it's caught! Please don't buy the glue traps.

we had a mouse problem last winter....it was horrible....we live behind woods and a cemetery so i guess that is where they came from - my apartment is immaculate and i was so embarrased b/c i thought ppl would think i was dirty for having mice!

we never actually saw the mice - just found poop on our kitchen counter and inside our stove range! we pulled out our stove and there was poop behind it! they were coming in from a hole in the wall behind the stove - like where the pipe was....so we used snap traps....first mouse we caught i cried - at first it didn't go on the trap so then we put peanut butter...it was at night, about 30 mins after we set the trap with peanut butter we heard SNAP then drag drag drag.....DH told me not to look behind the stove (we pulled it out enough so that we could put the trap) and i saw the mouse's head squashed and blood....but it didn't die right away - it was a big mouse and he dragged the trap a little bit.....i felt HORRIBLE....we caught like 2 more after that.....thought we got rid of them....

THEN we realized there was still another mouse....and he kept eating the peanut butter without setting off the trap....so DH's dad (who is actually an exterminator) said that mice are really smart and to try the glue trap....so we surrounded a regular trap with peanut butter with glue traps figuring either way we'd catch this smart mouse.....of course in the middle of the night when i was home alone the trap goes off - i looked and the mouse made it all the way to the snap trap, ate some peanut butter, set off the trap but didn't get caught in it - but got stuck on a glue pad while trying to run away.....

seeing this thing on the glue trap was torture....when DH came home we set it free b/c we felt so bad.....

you can get mice off the glue - if you put olive oil on them it frees them from the trap - but then they have oil on their feet and tummy....

so we felt better - we saved 1 mouse after we killed off his family
