NWR: MY FH........

NWR: MY FH........

Quit smoking! I am so proud of him, but I am so sad at the same time. His mood swings have been out of control and it's only the 5th day. I have tried to talk to him, but that is like talking to someone on a different planet. I dunno what to do. I know that it will pass. Sorry I just needed to vent a little.

OMG - quitting was the hardest thing I ever did! I was SO depressed - I would cry because I wanted a cigarette that freaking badly. I did it cold turkey and I think its harder at first that way. I also kept forgetting things and acted like a complete schizophrenic. My boss even commented but when I explained that I quit he was like whatever you need to get through this - you need to tell me.

Stay positive. Tell him everyday that you're so proud of him, make him excercise more, go for walks when the weather isn't so brutal, try to remind him to stay away from friends that smoke and all of the other triggers (coffee, beer, etc.).

It gets better. One day at a time.

Re: NWR: MY FH........

We actually joined the gym together 2 weeks ago. So we have been going everyday. I always tell him how proud I am of him. I know that I have to be strong so he can be strong, but when he is sooo moody I have to tell you it is soooo hard to do.

My FH also just quit. It is his 4th week on the patch. He tried to do it cold turkey but couldn't. The first week was pretty bad but I keep telling myself that I would rather deal with his moodiness than him smoking. Now it is much better. Tell him Congrats!

It will get better. FH has been smoke free for almost 3 years. He got sick one Christmas with Bronchitis and couldn't smoke for a week so he used it to his advantage. It's a very difficult thing, try and stay stong for him.

OMG that is so wonderful! Why not try some vitamins - I take Fish Oil every day twice a day - Really helps with my moods - studies have been done with bi-polar patients and it helps to even out moods. It's really good for your brain anyway - you can get a humungo bottle at Costco - I take two pills twice a day - it really helps. Also, St. Johns Wart can be really helpful as well.

I agree. I went through this with my mother, but unfortunately she only quit because she was coughing up her lungs, got double Pneumonia and Pulmanary Lung Disease. Better that he quit now, than have to endure a hospital stay. It was very scary. I'd rather deal with the mood swings than wondering if my mom was going to make it through the night. Lots of luck to him!! Hang in there
