NWR: my friend from work is having a 'coming out party' for her son...

My friend is Chinese, and apparently this is something they commonly do. Someone told me that family members will give a red envelopem with money in it.

But i dont know what I should give? or if money how much i should give?

Plus she also had a baby shower that I attended. My 3 friends and I chipped in and bought her stroller

Is your friend's son one month old?

Given the fact you've given your friend a stroller, I think it's fine to go a bit lighter on the one-month gift. You could even do a small toy, IMHO. Wrap the gift in red paper to stay with the theme. If it is a one month party, stay away from wrapping stuff or giving greeting cards in funereal colors (black or dark colors, white), since the tradition comes from the fact that historically, infant mortality was so high that the child reaching one month of age was a milestone.

I'm OOT, so I suggest asking in the Chinese Brides thread for a typical amount in the NY area. Have fun at the party.

If you buy a larger size toy you may be able to wrap it in a red plastic tablecloth or if you want a bit fancier look go for a red twin sheet.
