For the first time in a long time I got my acrylic nails removed. i cant believe it! Supposedly i am allergic to it. the chemicals were killing my fingers. she took them off today and put a gel on them. they are so short and it feels sooooo weird! but this is suppose to make my nails a lot stronger. anyone ever have this???

I've had the gel -- and I absolutely loved it.
I did find them to be not as strong as the acrylic, though. But, after I got used to them, it wasn't a problem!!!
ETA: I think you meant make your natural nail stronger, and, I think that the gel is 'better' for your natural nail than the acrylic.

I never experienced this but my aunt has acrylic on her nails and she had to have it removed b/c her cuticles were swelling, she could barely move her fingers, she couldnt really work cause she couldnt type..so she had them removed. And even after they were removed it took a little bit for the pain to go away

It's good that you took them off. ITs ok to be acrylic on but you need to give your natural nails time to heal and get stronger. I had them before and they were making my nails so soft and icky. I took them right off.

silk & gel wraps are better than acrylic. they cost more initially, but it is about the same cost every 2 weeks for maintenance. when i use 2 get my nails done i always got glass wraps....now i dont have the time or patience, so i just get pedi's.

Its such a great feeling to have them off!!!! I have my nails natural, but sometimes i miss having the gel and glue and stuff cause the polish lasts longer, but i dont miss all the filing and the time it takes

Can I recommend the best nail polish to help your nails grow naturally....rejuvacoate by Duri. It is amazing..forget about nailtek and the other crap.

Oh wow! I don't know much about gel tips since my nails have always been au natural (ie: SHORT) but it's a good thing you took them off!

I have been using Nailtiques for about a year now ever since I decided to stop putting on wraps. Let me tell you, my nails are SO SO strong and they grow so nicely. Whenever I go to a nail salon for a manicure, they are always commenting on how healthy my nails look. I always use it as a base and top coat and even apply a coat every couple of days to make my manicure last.
If you decide to give it a try you can get a mini bottle for half the price. It's a bit expensive but well worth it. CVS and other drugs stores sell the big bottle for $20 and the little for $10 but I just discovered that Harmon Drugs in Bed Bath and Beyond sells a big bottle for $13.
